There has been a gun in Clute, Texas for over 100 years. The first shooting of arms took place on February 24th, 1836 when two citizens, Denton and Hardeman came into conflict over an issue of land. A long and bloody battle ensued that led to the deaths of both men. The site where this fight took place is now called Overstreet Cemetery. In 1857, Clute was established as a town by order of the Republic of Texas. At first it was just a small farming community with about 50 residents. In 1860 the town had 1000 residents and by 1865 it had grown to 3000 people. On January 1st, 1870 the village population reached 10,000 people and on January 15th they reached 25,000 people. The Clute Pistol Company was a Gun Manufacturers and Retailers located in Clute, Texas. The company started in 1892 as the Clute Rifle and Pistol Company, manufacturing rifles and pistols. In 1896, the company became the Clute Shotgun and Rifle Company. In 1902, the company became the Clute Pistol Company again. From 1922 to 1942, the company was known as the Texas Arms Corporation. During World War II, they manufactured ammunition for the US military. In 1944 they closed their business operations and merged with The Armoury of Dallas to form The Armoury of Dallas &Clute Corporation.
Clute is a small town in Kendall County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,717 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Clute is located on FM 359 and has a post office with ZIP code 77301. The name Clute comes from the Creek word "cue" meaning "a piece of wood used to make a fire." The first settlers in this area were two brothers who named their land after them, David Clute and Solomon Clute. In 1849, John Hogg built the first house in what is now Clute. The community began to grow rapidly when it became apparent that there was an open market for goods brought into Kendall County by stage coaches traveling between Austin and Dallas. A school was built in 1851 and several businesses were opened including a store, blacksmith shop, wagon dealership, hotel and farm auctioneering operation. In 1865, James Mclntyre founded McLntyre & Company which manufactured agricultural implements including looms and seeders used by farmers throughout the region. In 1881, Thomas Ladd bought McLntyre & Company from James Mclntyre for $1 million dollars cash. With Ladd's help, ClUTE became one of the most prosperous communities in Kendall County during the early 20th century with major industry continuing until World War II when it largely dried up due to Prohibition-driven unemployment%. After World War II ended1945 there was significant growth back into agriculture as new technology led to increased production yields for corn and other crops - giving rise to what are now known as "Clutes." Today many people still reside here farming while others commute into Austin or Round Rock for jobs in various areas of TX (urban or rural). So in 1876, the company merged with two other manufacturing companies, Pogue & Sons and Houghton & Mifflin Company, to form the National Firearms Manufacturers Association (NFA). In 1903, NFA merged with the United States Firearm Company to form American Arms Corporation (AAC). AAC continued making firearms until 1934 when it was purchased by National Firearms Association (NFA) which renamed itself National Firearms Industries Incorporated.
Clute was founded in 1879 by J.P. Clute and his family. The town grew rapidly due to the discovery of oil and natural gas reserves in the area, and by 1904 it had a population of 12,000 people. A post office was established in 1902, and a school was built in 1909. By 1917, Clute had a population of 30,000 people and an economy based on agriculture and ranching. In the 1930s, Clute became one of the most important cities in Texas because of its role as the principal center for oil production in the state. During World War II, Clute supported the war effort with its production of gasoline and other commodities. After the war ended, the city experienced rapid growth due to new economic opportunities brought about by postwar suburban development. However, during the 1980s-1990s CLUTE experienced a series of significant financial setbacks which has left it struggling to recover from its past mistakes. In recent years there have been several attempts to revitalizeClute through community programs and cultural events; however these have yet to achieve any real success
Clute, Texas was founded in 1836 by Jedediah Clute. The town was named for Jedediah Clute, the father of David Clute. The first store in town was built on Main Street and soon there were four stores. In 1840, a post office was established in town and it remained in operation until 1906. The first school in town was opened in 1845 and it remains in use to this day. In 1850, a sawmill and gristmill were built near the current site of the Clutesville Elementary School. The mill continued to operate until 1912 when it became owned by the Klatt family. In 1865, a cotton gin began operations in Clute and it remained operational until 1972 when it became owned by the Upson family. In 1892, an express train service called "The Old Lady" ran between Houston and Dallas rode on the tracks of the former Cleburne Railroad which passed through downtown Clute. This service ended after only one season due to budget cuts caused by World War I.
