Clute is a small town in Vernon County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The first settler in Clute was George Hildebrandt on November 24, 1847. Hildebrandt and his wife Anna left Germany for America on October 12, 1848 and arrived in what is now Vernon County on October 26 of that year. They had two children: George Clute (1849-1924) and Anna Hildebrandt Clute (1853-1936). George Clute married into the nearby family of John Dickson in 1870. John Dickson had come to America from Scotland about 1851 with his parents and siblings. He settled near present day Irvington in Dallas County and platted what would become the town of Clute on March 11, 1875. The land around today's town was owned by early settlers including Jeptha Goodloe who named it "Goodloe's Prairie" after himself and James Goodloe who served as its first postmaster. The first school in this small community was built by Mrs. Fenton upon her farm south of the present day post office building which still stands! Mrs Fenton taught school until she died in 1923 when her daughter Alma took over instruction for one term only before moving away to marry an American businessman; Alma Goodloe later became superintendent of schools for Arlington Heights (Dalston), IL). In 1918 Mr., Wm., Miss & Children’s grocery store opened up shop across from Post Office #2 – it currently houses the local library services! In 1924 a new school annex was erected east of Main Street just south of Ulysses S Grant High School which housed grades PreK thru 8th grade while also serving as home to Sunday School classes during weekdays (& infant/ toddler care during off days). This “new” high school offered four classrooms plus a gymnasium/playfield with wrestling room/ track & field area & commons area complete with fireplaces throughout its years Of operations; however due to funding shortfalls it closed its doors permanently Female students were finally admitted into Ulysses S Grant High School through 10th grade beginning Spring 2006 After many years OF struggle we are now able to offer girls coed classes starting 7th grade Thank you City Councilors for your support!

The settlement at Clute began as a stagecoach stop on the Butterfield Overland Mail route from Houston to Fort Worth. In 1907, the Klostermeier Brothers erected a schoolhouse and store on land donated by John Denton Sr., one of the early settlers in Kerr County. A post office was established at Clute on May 1, 1912; it served until it closed on January 3, 1969. In 1951, Clute incorporation occurred after residents voted in favor of having their own city government with limited powers to provide services such as police or fire protection within the unincorporated area around town limits. The initial population size forClute was 8 thousand-8 hundred when founded-rising rapidly however throughout most of this years growth due primarily to annexation and other nearby communities which were created during that time period by developers who desired access to what they saw as valuable rural land near Junction City-a growing town with high schools and churches located just south of town proper while also home to numerous agricultural businesses including two large grocery stores
Clute is a town in Comanche County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. The name Clute comes from the Choctaw word 'klu-tah' meaning "place of plenty." The townsite was laid out in 1859 by J.M. Ewing and Wm.F. Hays for the railroad company's own expansion into the area; it was named after General James AverillClute had been part of Coahuila and Texas during the Mexican-American War as well as during Indian Wars fought by both sides. In 1871, a post office called Clute was established at the junction of Farm to Market Road 6 and US Highway 66; it remained in operation until 1923. In 1916, local citizens voted to change the name to Clute because they found it more cumbersome to spell than '.coma'.
