The city of Cleburne was established in 1907 and has since grown to become one of the most important cities in Vernon County. Even though it has been through some tough times, Cleburne still retains its proud culture and history. One of the most significant events that took place in the city happened during World War II when over 2,000 American soldiers from neighboring counties came to help with munitions production. A courthouse was constructed in 1865 and remained operational until 1907 when it burned down. The cotton belt of central Texas produced much of the country's crop during the 19th century and before that there were few industry or commercial buildings because most people worked on their farms or ranching operations which ranged from subsistence to very large scale production depending on local conditions at any given time . There are several interesting anecdotes about early Cleburne residents: one involved John Crouch who married Sarah Watts about 1850; he moved his family to Cleburne from Jonesboro, Arkansas when he got a job offer from Jarratt & Co., an oil company near Wichita Falls, Texas; they became fixtures around town (it wasn't long until everyone knew them) including setting up shop at what is now known as "Crouch's store" (now JP Morgan Chase); they would go out each day into Jonesboro looking for work so Sarah could stay home with their children; she would bring back money enough to buy shoes for all of them plus food for lunch each day so they wouldn't get hungry while working; one day someone set fire to his house but his wife woke up just as it startedso she put out the fire herself with some千張火帽 - she had learned how do do this during her childhood watching her parents do it.; another story has been related about Hernando Carrillo who bought 1/2 acre (0.24 km²)of land along Buffalo Bayou west of town in 1876 after being denied access to purchase elsewhere due to his race; he raised hogs there until 1898 when prohibition made agricultureillegal throughout America so he sold off all his land includingCleburne Creek Farm which still stands today sleeves later years developed into some kind of processing plant used mostly by First National Bank where many important historical events took place such as President George Bush's inauguration speech
