The Cleburne Rifle and Pistol Club, Inc. was founded in 1903 by George A. Kistler. The club’s first rifle was built by Wm. H. Griggs of Wichita Falls, Texas and it fired a new type of ammunition called buckshot which caused a lot of excitement at the time because it was the first time anyone had been able to shoot with such an ammunition without getting hurt. In 1906, the club began manufacturing its own firearms including pistols and rifles. In 1916, the club moved to its current location on Cleburne Boulevard in Cleburne, TX and began using what is now known as the “Kistler System” for hearing protection which consisted of two baffles placed over each ear that blocked out all sounds except those created by your own voice and ears. This plant became known as "Gulf II" because it increased production by 50%. However, this plant also produced significant environmental problems that were eventually addressed by Gulf; for example they installed air pollution control equipment thaturiated less then originally thought while generating more power than originally planned which helped reduce emissions from the plant by 30%. In 1984 Gulf merged with Texaco which created what is now ExxonMobil Corporation operating under Rex Tillerson's leadership
