Cleburne is a city in and the county seat of Cleburne County, Texas, United States. The population was 27,813 at the 2010 census. It had been part of the Wichita Falls, Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area before being moved to its current location in 1876. The first Cleburne arms were carried by Confederate soldiers as they retreated from Fort Worth on November 9, 1864. A small arsenal was set up soon afterward near what is now Main Street and Henderson Avenue. On April 15, 1865, General James Fenton ordered all Confederate armories in the area closed without any warning or explanation- this action signals the end of hostilities in Tennessee and Texas. In 1876, when Wichita Falls was destroyed by fire, Cleburne decided to move to its current location and become a town. The first post office opened in Cleburne on December 12th of that year. By 1907 it hadgrown to over 10 streets with a population of over 50 people! Today there are many businesses located within the city limits including several banks (JPMorgan Chase & Co., Citigroup Inc., First National Bancorp), Ford dealership (Ford Motor Company), FedEx Ground shipping company (FedEx Corporation) and more!
Cleburne is a small town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The name "Cleburne" comes from a Shawnee word meaning "place where there are no trees." The first settlers in what is now Cleburne arrived in 1836 and named it after Creek Indian Chief Cline's Fork. They built their cabin on the banks of the Saline River, about one mile from present-day Cleburne Boulevard and I-20. In 1839, James Hogg established an agricultural colony near modern day Cleburne and named it after himself, John Hoggs Settlement. In 1845, Robert Ewing organized a group of mechanics to build a canal through Hudspeth County from San Antonio toBlanco so that cotton could be shipped south to Mexico. For five years he worked on the canal project with his brother John Ewing and other men from Austin before finally getting permits for construction in October 1850. The canal opened in May 1852 and became known as the Comanche Trail because it connected Texas Monthly Fort Worth correspondent A.J. Macdonald's ranch with Mexican slavery buyers at Brownsville (now210 miles north of Cleburne). In 1860, when Confederate forces invaded Texas during the American Civil War, most of Hudspeth County fled to neighboring counties or crossed into Mexico Territory without authorization by Union authorities prior to this time. However, some residents chose not to leave and formed an independent village called Clearwater on opposite side of Clear Fork river which later became Dallas county seat after Dallas was founded in 1870 by brothers William McKinney (who had come downriver) and Tarrant Richardson (who had married Clearwater's female resident). When Confederate General Braxton Bragg failed to capture Houston during his December 1863 invasion of Texas & its surrounding territory (presumably because most Texans refused to fight against their own government), many Texans within Hudpheth Counties decided they would rather stay Republican than join Bragg's rebel army & support Confederate General Johnston instead; these people came collectively known as "theBraxtonBragg faction". By 1865 much of what remains today Cleburne had been abandoned except for a few homes scattered around downtown including those built by early settlers James Hogg & John Hoggs Settlement along Saline Riverbank just upstream from present day I-20 bridge across Saline River - all were destroyed by fire set by local cattle ranchers circa 1900 exactly one hundred years ago! That same year new arrivals Edward Culp arrived from Tennessee with his family settling near present day Waco Lake about three miles southwest of downtown Cleburne on land belonging to Laughlin Rancho de la Guerra grant #9191 granted March 15th1875 by President Ulysses S Grant under Act No 1022 entitled: To Encourage Farming operations within limits prescribed herein’ – This was also just two days before Comanche Trails stagecoach route between east TX/Waco Lake Colony w/Laughlin ranches ran thru CLEBURNE sector Pedernales Rd thence thru Newton Springs via junction De Grave Rd then over Gourd Ford onto US 281 heading due NW then NNW via Elmira Bridge crossing Red Dirt Creek then WSW over Cypress Hills Pass into Mexico

By 1880, Cleburne had a population of around 2,000 people. After being reborn as an educational center in the 1960s,Cleburne has continued to grow steadily since then. In 2002, it became one of Texas' 51 counties.

On November 1, 1865, Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House in Virginia, ending the Civil War. Cleburne's economy declined after the war because of low trade with the Confederacy and rural poverty. However, Cleburne regained an importance as a transportation hub when the Texas Central Railroad was built through it in 1872. After World War II ended in 1945, industry disappeared because of changes in technology; however, Cleburne has experienced growth over the last few decades due to its location within Interstate 10 and its easy access to jobs in Dallas-Fort Worth.
