Cleburne, Texas is a small town located in Hood County, Texas. The population was 1,813 at the 2000 census and 1,894 at the 2010 census. Cleburne is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The name "Cleburne" comes from the Cherokee word "klebawn," meaning bluff or hillock. The first settler in Cleburne was James Bowie in 1845. He founded a trading post on an overlook above the creek that now forms Cleburne Creek. In 1853, David Giddings established another trading post two miles east of present-day Cleburne. Giddings sold his land to James Bowie for $1,000 cash on July 2, 1854. In 1865, General A.J. McCulloch ordered all Native Americans living west of Memphis to leave their homes within 24 hours or be forcibly removed by order of General McCulloch himself. As a result of this order, many Cherokees who had been living in and around Cleburne began moving away en masse beginning on July 4th and continuing until August 5th when all but about seventy-five men and women were loaded into wagons and taken south to what is now Chattanooga Tennessee along with their belongings and children! Many people who remained behind lost everything they had including their homes, crops, cattle (eventually auctioned off), horses etc., leaving behind nothing but memories... some still live in scattered communities scattered around central Alabama today! It is interesting to note that while most residents of Clifton Plantation near modern day Arlington Heights may have initially been forced out onto the open prairies outside of town due to eastern Missouri’s conflict with Texas over ownership of Indian Territory prior to statehood; those areas now include portions of Arlington Heights as well as newer subdivisions which took shape after World War II commenced when vast numbers African American soldiers returning home from service landed in Hood County during that time frame -clearing much needed acreage for suburban growth! In addition it should be noted that many early settlers also migrated downriver from central Arkansas via Cottonwood Creek before reaching what would become Cleburne Township (now called Hood County) because there was no railroads available northward at that time! People traveling through Central America traded goods upriver so goods like clothing became very important early on here too as transportation became essential for goods being transported back downriver

The town's economy changed again during World War II as Cleburne became one of the most important military bases in Texas. After the war, Cleburne experienced rapid growth as a bedroom community for Dallas. In recent decades, however, growth has slowed and the population has fallen victim to waves of suburban development. Despite this decline, Cleburne remains an important local cultural and economic force, both within Texas and nationally.
The town of Cleburne was founded in 1845 by the brothers Elijah and Ebenezer Cleburne. The first settler, John Pritchard, arrived in 1846. The town grew rapidly, and by 1849 it had a population of 300 people. By 1861, the town had reached 1,000 people. In 1865, Cleburne became an independent parish. In 1870, the Texas Legislature passed a bill creating a new county within Dallas County named for General James Biddle. The residents of Cleburne voted to secede from Dallas County and become an independent municipality under the name of Cleburne County. The county government was moved to Arlington in 1888.
