The history of Cleburne, Texas can be traced back to the 18th century. The town was founded in 1787 by settlers who were looking for a new home after being forced out of their original land.Cleburne quickly became a prominent center of commerce and culture, and its citizens enjoyed an active role in local politics and public life. In 1836, the town was renamed Cleburne after Confederate General Robert E. Lee, and it continued to grow as a commercial center and important military base during the Civil War. After the war, Cleburne experienced a period of rapid growth as businesses began to relocate from other parts of the country to join forces with its growing population. In 1949, Cleburne officially became a city and remains one today.
Cleburne, Texas is a small town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. Cleburne was platted on November 3, 1857 by James H. Cleburne and his brother John A. Cleburne. It was named for General Robert Ewell Johnston's uncle (and namesake of Confederate general Robert Ewell) Cleburne County in Virginia. The original settlers were Methodist Episcopalians from North Carolina who arrived in 1859 and built a log cabin near what is now the center of town. The first post office was established in 1865, but it functioned only as an outpost until 1865 when it became the town seat under auspices of the new county courthouse located between Main Street and Elm Street on what is now Center Square. The community grew rapidly early on due to its location along US 29 and access to water resources that included three wells: one on each side of Center Square across from First Baptist Church; one just east of Main Street off Bowie Lane; and one west of Bowie Lane off Elm Street. In 1870s two sawmills operated adjacent to Center Square while a lumberyard opened nearby in 1872 which led to increased development within the boundaries of Cleburne limits including building numerous businesses including a grocery store (1875), post office (1876), school (1877), hotel (1879), bottling works (1901), cotton gin(1907) and dairy barn(1910). In 1915 Union Pacific Railroad began constructing its line through Williamson County connecting Dallas with Chicago viaAustin; this added significant growth potential forCleburne as well as other parts of Williamson County not already served by railroads such as Mckinney, Grapevine and Marble Falls In 1923 First National Bank became operational followed by First Methodist Church affiliated with United Methodist Church in 1928 which formed what remain today both banks are still active with over 100 years combined history . From 1945-1980 Williamson College operated outposts at newly acquired sites around Beltway 8 including present day Old High School Campus southwest corner Of IH 35W & FM 1425E

Cleburne, Texas is a small town located in Williamson County, TX. The population was 1,856 at the 2010 census. It is named after General Andrew Jackson's father-in-law and namesake of the town Cleburne, Arkansas. The community has been located on the banks of the Navarro River since 1875. The history of Cleburne began with a group of settlers who arrived in 1875 to establish a post office and store near present-day Cleburne. In 1901, the first school was built and became known as "Kindergarten Hill". In 1935, two oil wells were drilled in nearby Anadarko County and production began that year. Over time, Cleburne grew into a busy shipping point for oilfield services and other supplies sent downriver from Anadarko County until production stopped in 1978 due to low levels of oil found in the ground. Today, much of the original development still stands including Kindergarten Hill School which was built in 1901; an old bank building which served as a post office until 1975; and an old cotton gin which still operates today as a museum. In addition to these older buildings there are several new structures such as the Anderson Ranch housing subdivision that opened in 2002; Interstate 20/Upper Navarro Bridge Park whichopened in 2006; and Hawkinsville High School Annex which opened in 2007.

The town grew rapidly after the completion of the railroad in 1857, and by 1865 it had a population of over 10,000. In 1870, Cleburne became the capital of Texas under Reconstruction. It remained an important city until the early 20th century when its population fell dramatically due to industrialization and urban growth in Dallas and other nearby cities.
