The Cleburne County Gun Slings Association is a nonprofit organization that has been around since the early 1920s. The group has collected and preserves antique firearms, ammunition, and related items from throughout the county. In addition to providing research and education on slings history in Cleburne County, the group also helps to sponsor annual prizes for the worst accuracy score in a game of billiards or darts; prints original gun slings photographs for sale at local antique stores; publishes an annual newsletter; and organizes charitable events.

Cleburne is a small town located in Caldwell County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,823 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community began as a single-family home settlement on the banks of the White River in 1881. By 1900, Cleburne had become a trading post and stores were built along Main Street. A post office was organized in 1902 and named for Edward Cleburne, Sr., who served as its first clerk. In 1907, an electric power line was constructed to provide electricity to the community and it became known as "The Electricity Village." In 1938, when Caldwell County was formed from parts of Wichita Falls and San Angelo Counties,Cleburne became its official seat. The population reached 3,000 by 1951 and 5,000 by 1960. The growth ofCLEBURNE led to annexation of adjacent towns such as Uptown in 1965 and Wilbarger in 1978; both communities have since grown back to their original size with accompanying populations over 4,000 people each. During World War II (1939-1945), Cleburne lent support to the war effort by becoming one of the first American towns to engage in night bombing raids against Japanese targets during Japan's war against America (1941- 1945). In 1946, after years of negotiation between local officials and then–President Harry S Truman's administration over how best to use public resources during wartime—Cleburne residents voted unanimously to establish itself as an independent city under the guidance of Mayor Wiley Ewing III with responsibility for all municipal functions relating thereto including police services and fire protection; this move outraged numerous nearby municipalities which felt they were being taken advantage of while still hosting their own citizens; howevercleburne quickly regained many lost rights upon incorporation into City Hall hands36 years later

These include either a simple belt buckle or strap system that is attached to the back of the firearm and used as a makeshift sling, or an elaborate contraption made from two pieces of metal frame and two straps that are connected by a large loop. Gun slings have been around since at least the 15th century and were originally designed for horses. One of the earliest gun slings was developed by Yusuf ibn Taimur in 13th century Arabia. This type of sling consisted of a piece of metal frame with two straps connecting it together in the middle, which was then used as a makeshift sling for carrying firearms over long distances. The use of gun slings began to spread throughout Asia and Europe during the 16th century, with examples being found in Hungary (1526), Rome (1565), Venice (1611), Amsterdam (1624), Paris (1670), and Germany (1740). The development of effective rifle ammunition led to an increased demand for gun slings during World War II. However, their use remains largely anecdotal today. Some notable instances where gunslingers resorted to using gunslings include: Ali Baba and The Forty Thieves (1938), The Tower Bridge Chase (1943), Stagecoach Westbound(1946) – all filmed on location in North America; The Guns Of Navarone(1974); Dieppe Raid(1945) – also filmed on location near Dunkirk; The Battle Of Britain(1939) – also filmed on location in England; Schoolboy Errors(1984) – also shot on location in Texas; etc.
