Cleburne, Texas is a city in and the county seat of Bowie County, Texas, United States. The population was 7,031 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The first gun sight in Cleburne was built by George H. Smith in 1885 on a farm there. Smith's sight consisted of an iron post with a crosshatch pattern etched on it to indicate elevation or range. Another early gunsight operator was James Tarrant who operated from his home near what is now downtown Cleburne from around 1892 until his death in 1907. In 1911, Article V of the Texas Constitution granted cities and towns within Bowie County "the power to erect public buildings for purposes of common defense." In 1912, Mayor John Ladd requested that the state legislature pass an act authorizing him to erect a gunnery school in town so that "young men may receive their education under competent instructors." The request was denied on the grounds that such a school would be erected without prior consent from the municipality. A new application for authority to build a gunnery school was submitted to the state legislature in 1913; this time it passed with only minor changes but no action followed until 1924 when local citizens succeeded in getting an appropriation for construction of what became known as "The Lady Bird Gunnery School". In 1935, The National Defense Act merged Colorado and Kansas into one country, resulting in adjustments being made to U.S. law governing firearms regulations within newly acquired jurisdictions (such as those affecting Cleburne). As part of these alterations,Cleburne's municipal ordinance became void effective July 1st, 1936 due to its noncompliance with then-current state law regulating municipalities' ordinances governing guns and ammunition handling facilities

The first Cleburne settlers were French colonists who arrived in 1718. The name originated from the Creek word "Cliburn" which means "a clear stream." The creek that now runs through Cleburne was named after John Cliburn, an Englishman who founded what is now Clearwater County, Florida in 1819. In 1836, the Republic of Texas established a county seat for San Antonio and Cleburne became its official town. At this time, most of what is now Cleburne was within today's city limits of San Antonio.
In 1868, the US$5 million Cotton Mills project began to be developed by entrepreneur Sam Houston and his son J.B. Houston in downtownCleburne as one of America's largest textile industry projects before World War II with over 1 million workers employed on 110 acres (40 hectares). It wasn't until 1951 that Interstate 10 was built bypassing Cleburnee entirely; at this time much of eastern CLEBURNE COUNTY lay within present day Floresville.Floresville Independent Record article: “Interstate 10 cut through heartland community once known for cotton fields”. Today little remains aside from some original homes and outbuildings dating back to the early 20th century – including a home built by pioneer James Kilpatrick on land later patented to Don Ballou – while much has been replaced with modern development.
During World War II, nearly all Cle Burne belongings went into storage for use during wartime shortages…most notably clothes line items such as shoes and socks.

The iron sights allowed Archers to actually see their target before firing, making shooting much easier than it had ever been before. With advances in technology came also advancements in gun design, and over time different types of guns have been developed for various purposes such as hunting/pest control/self-defense etc., all with the aim of hitting someone in the head from a distance.

Cleburne, Texas is located in the U.S. state of Texas and has a population of over 200,000 as of 2010. The community was founded in 1881 by John C. Cleburne and his sisters, who named it after themselves—Cleburne County, Texas. The first post office in Cleburne opened on October 10, 1881. The population growth in the early years was due to cattle drives that traveled through the area and ranching operations by local farmers. In 1915, the town became an all-white school district and white flight began to occur as African Americans moved out to take jobs in other towns throughout the Lone Star state. Despite this exodus, black residents continued to identify with Cleburne until well into the 1960s when zoning changes banned any new development within one-half mile of schools or theaters without prior approval from white officials. In recent decades, much progress has been made for Cleburne residents including passage of two referendums allowing for increased housing development outside of downtown while preserving its historic buildings; major repairs are currently being done to various streetscape elements; and a new library has been built on Main Street which reopened in December 2009.
Cleburne was established in 1836 by Andrew Cleburne and his wife, Martha. The Cleburnes were the first white family to live in what is now Cleburne County. They were the pioneers of the area, ranchers and farmers who built homes and businesses along the Brazos River. In 1859, they erected a tollgate on the river at present-day Clearwater County to collect tolls from travelers traveling upriver. By 1870, the Cleburnes had become one of Texas' most prominent families with their ranching and shipping interests.
