Cleburne, Texas is a small town in Johnson County, Texas located on the Brazos River. As of the 2010 census, the population was 559. The name " Cleburne" comes from the Creek Indian word Cliburna. The first settlement in this area was made by Isaac Smith and his family on March 10, 1836. They built a cabin near present-day Cleburne on the Brazos River. A sawmill and gristmill were also erected here soon after. The milling industry declined during the early years of the 20th century, but it has since regained some popularity as a tourist destination due to its historical significance and scenic beauty.
