Cleburne, Texas is home to the oldest continuously inhabited town in the United States and one of the few remaining strongholds of frontier culture. The Town of Cleburne was founded on July 6, 1836 by settlers from Tennessee, Missouri, and Kentucky. It was named for General Hugh Mercer Cleburne who fought in the Mexican-American War and became a hero in Texas. The first ammunition factory opened in 1853 and manufacturing continued until 1959. In that year, an ammunition depot was built at what is now IH-35 North. Today, munitions are produced here including artillery shells, shot rounds and grenades. Ammunition production began in earnest again after World War II thanks to advances in technology and new demand from the military. In 1892, the US Cavalry Regiment was organized in Cleburne, Texas. The regiment served until 1898. The first shots of the American Revolution were fired from Fort Robertson on November 15, 1776. The battle of Bunker Hill took place on April 6, 1775 and the first shot heard by Europeans was from a British musket at Lexington (now Lexington Park) on April 19, 1775. The Battle of Gettysburg took place on July 4-7, 1863 and it is considered one of America’s most important battles. The Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House on April 9th 1865 after three days of battle.
Cleburne is a small town in south-central Texas, located on the banks of the Brazos River. The population was 1,818 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tyler-Cleburne Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit what is now Cleburne was Antonio de Herrera y Costilla in 1536. The name "Cleburne" probably comes from a Creek word meaning "clear stream." Spanish traders and adventurers traveled through this area and named various places after rivers they crossed or saw while exploring new lands in South America: San Felipe, Rio Grande del Norte, Río Grande del Sur and Rio Bravo. In 1807, General James Hogg's army passed through this area on their way to attack Mexico City. When he arrived in Cleburne, he were met by Governor Archer who said "Halt! There's an Indian village ahead (of us) on the riverbank." Hogg ordered his men not to fire upon the Indians but instead march into camp for dinner. In 1848, Bandera County was created from parts of Nueces and Houston Counties. On November 20 of that year, Bandera County commissioners voted to accept a report from President Polk recommending that all land east of US 77 be divided between Houston and Nueces counties as part of a larger plan designed to reduce central Mexican control over East Texas Territory. The vote followed days of heated discussion over whether or not Texans should secede from Mexico because they considered it their natural right as Anglo Americans born elsewhere within Mexican territory during years when Mexicans controlled most aspects of life in East Texas (1821-1846). On December 5th Austin merchants met at Avila's Hotel near downtown Austin to discuss resolutions protesting Polk's decree proposing eastern transfer failed 3/5ths with only 12 voices against; those opposed citedcerns about loss of business opportunities due to increased border patrols and competition from Texan farmers growing crops west of US 77 - especially those southeast of Galveston - which would have been affected by any transfer eastward including CLEBURNE . On February 14th 1849 James Fenton purchased 640 acres (250 ha) northeast of Cleburne along Buffalo Bayou for $10 per acre ($160/ha). This property became known as Fenton Ranch after him. In 1865 Fenton donated an additional 260 acres (100 ha) northwest adjacent to his ranchland for use as agricultural land by state troops during Reconstruction following the American Civil War ending slavery in America

Cleburne, Texas is a small town located in far eastern Travis County, Texas. The population was 712 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The first people to live in Cleburne were white Texans who came overland from Mexico in 1836. They founded what is now Cleburne on the east side of the Brazos River. In 1838, they built a mission and named it Santa Fe de la Cruz (the Spanish for "holy city"). The mission was abandoned in 1848 and later sold to an American family. The man who bought it renamed it Santa Anna Mission and Home (now Stonewall Jackson High School). In 1859, Captain John Braidwood purchased the original land for $8 million from the Mexican government. Hefortown Plantation became Cleburne's first courthouse in 1861 and remained so until 1935 when it was replaced by the current courthouse building on Main Street. In 1865, Governor James Kenedy set up a military post here named Fort Bliss with artillery batteries that could be used against Confederate forces fighting south of the river under General Robert Ewell.. At this time there were only 10 residents living in Cleburne proper but more than 2,000 people lived nearFort Bliss and its surrounding townsites including Haltom City, San Pedro Springs, Dayton, Waco and Clear Lake. The fort saw action during both Texas Revolution and Civil War but eventually surrendered to Union forces on April 6 1865 after leading several successful assaults on Confederate lines at Mansfield Hill near downtownCleburne without achieving success; all around 600 Texan soldiers died here including 400 members of General Joseph Johnston's army which had garrisoned Fort Bliss prior to its surrender
Cleburne was founded in 1839 by Captain John Cleburne, an American Revolutionary War veteran and a member of the Texas Railroad Commission. The town grew rapidly, becoming known for its cotton plantations and rice fields. In 1859, Cleburne became the capital of the new Confederate States of America; it remains so today. The city experienced many tragedies during the Civil War: in 1865, Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House; in 1898, a fire destroyed most of Cleburne's buildings and killed over 100 people. After the war ended, Cleburne slowly regained its former prosperity as a commercial center and agricultural hub. In 2003, local officials announced plans to demolish much of downtown CLEBURNE to make way for a new high school campus and other development. However, protests against the plan quickly emerged and led to recrimination by some residents who felt that they had been left out of what was being planned for their community. Despite this opposition, demolition eventually proceeded unimpeded
