Cleburne is a town in Johnson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous municipality in Johnson County and one of its three largest towns. The other two are Midland and Harlingen. The first known inhabitants of Cleburne were the Menchis who lived along the Red River before they were displaced by the Comanches in 1836. In 1851, Cleburne was founded by Methodist missionaries under construction of a road from Fort Worth to Wichita Falls. The community name derived from General Robert Ewell's Creek campaign against Mexican forces during the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). In 1876, when white settlers began to arrive in Johnson County, they chose to locate their town on high ground overlooking Clear Fork's river valley so that they could watch Indian raids and war parties passing through their land. By 1880, Cleburne had a store and twenty residents. A post office was established at Cleburne in 1881, and soon afterward a Kirtland Baptist Church was built. By 1890 there were over one hundred residents living in Cleburne with thirty businesses operating within its limits. By 1900 there were only twelve residents left in Cleburne; seven of whom worked for local farmers or ranchers as farmhands or tenant farmers while eight managed small stores clustered around Main Street. One resident estimated that “the rate of population growth has been more rapid than even natural increase can account for” due to increased immigration from Mexico since 1880 and resultant economic development withinCleburne beginning around 1910s led by Fruita merchants Mexicainos Donny Ramirez and Antonio Gutierrez; businesswomen Mary Flores (1900), Nellie Denton (1910), Emma Barnes (1920), Florence Baca Marquez (1930) along with Japanese American Keiko Nakamura who opened her own grocery store on Magazine Street between Main & Broadway Streets about 1930 which became an important cultural center for Japanese Americans throughout Cameron Park during World War II era as well as postwar period when it continued serving as social club until it closed circa 1960s due to increasing suburbanization of Johnson County

The airgun industry was founded in 1937 by two individuals, the inventor and sales representative Leo W. Chinn and the entrepreneur Milton J. Gottlieb. The first commercial airguns were designed by Chinn and Gottlieb as pocket guns for target shooting; these were called “Dartmouth Airguns” because they were made at the Dartmouth College rifle range. In 1939, Gottlieb founded his own company, American Home Products Company (APHCO), which produced a line of airguns known as the American Eagle Outfitters (AEO) brand. In 1945, Chinn and American Home Products Company merged to form Chinn-Gottlieb Manufacturing Company (CGM). This company produced both Pocket Gun models which remained in production until 1958, along with various other models including centerfire rifles and shotguns. In 1957, CGM introduced its first gas-operated airgun model – the Taurus A1 – which became popular among recreational shooters. At this time, CGM also began producing semiautomatic pistols under the M&P firearms brand name. In 1966, CGM merged with Browning Arms Corporation to form Browning Firearms Corporation (BFC). BFC continued to producePocket Guns under the Browning name until 1984 when it was renamed Colt Firearms Corporation (CLT) after then-president John Ritchie's purchase of over 60% of BFC shares
Cleburne is a city in the US state of Texas. It was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants in 1836. The city has a population of 146,730 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat for Dallas County. The original name for Cleburne was "Cameron". The town was platted in 1836 by James Cameron and his brother John Cameron, who had come over on the Fayetteville and Brazos Railroad from Kentucky. The town started out as a small farming community with just a few families. In 1840, Cameron's son Donald built the first frame house in Cleburne. By 1851, there were four post office buildings and over 100 people living in Cleburne. In 1853, Cleburne became part of the new Dallas County when it was created from parts of Kaufman County. In 1865, Jameson Cameron died suddenly at age 54 while serving as sheriff of Dallas County; his widow married General Sam Houston Bonham II and they continued to live in Cleburne until her death in 1889. In 1870, around 500 residents lived inCleburne when it incorporated as a city under the name "Cameron". The first mayor was Elisha Holmes (1872-75). City Beautiful Movement swept across America during this time and many beautiful civic buildings were erected such as City Hall (1915), Post Office (1868) and Library Annex (1920). Heinrich Von Braun's rocket engine plant began operations at nearby Redstone Arsenal during World War II which led to massive growth within Cleburne – now an annexing city annexed byDallas located within its boundaries since 1978
Cleburne was a small town in southern Texas until the late 1800s. The area now known as Cleburne was first settled by Anglo-Saxon farmers in the 18th century. In 1836, it became part of the Mexican state of Coahuila and Chihuahua. Englishman Robert Cleburne founded a small ranch there in 1838, and he named it after himself. By 1840, many Texans had migrated to what is now Cleburne County, including Edwin Taylor and James Fenton. A post office was established at Cleburne in 1842, and mail arrived from Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, for the first time in Texas that year. The population of Cleburne reached about 100 residents by 1850. In 1861, Confederate forces attacked Union troops stationed at Fort Worth during the American Civil War. Confederate General Troup led an attack on Fort Worth that failed; however, this event helped spur early efforts by Texans to secede from the United States. On October 2nd of that year, Houston voters elected John Connally as their new governor; Connally's term began on January 3rd of 1862. In November 1862, Confederate General Braxton Bragg attacked Corpus Christi harbor; this attack resulted in merchant shipping being destroyed and $2 million worth of supplies being lost
