The history of Cibolo began in 1881 when two men named J.B. Stratton and Wm. Bigham bought land in what is now Gregg County from the Chisholm's Rancho Viejo de Santa Anna family. In 1903, Cibolo was incorporation as a city with a population of around 100 people. After World War II, when the military stationed in nearby Fort Worth lefttowns emptied, the city began to grow rapidly and by 1960 had reached its peak with a population of over 1,500 people. By 1970 it had decreased to just under 1,000 people due to factors such as large-scale development within Fort Worth and new immigrants moving into the city limits instead of staying in Cibolo. However, during the 1990s and 2000s growth rates have gradually resumed due to increased job opportunities withinFort Worth and other surrounding municipalities as well as increasing tourism for Cibolo's unique historical attractions such as its churches (particularly Sts Mary & St James), cotton plantations (especially Bollinger Plantation), ranchos (particularly San Jacinto Rancho Seco) and cowboys' camps (such as Comanche Roundup).

Cibolo is a small town in Webb County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,636 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. Cibolo was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants in 1847 as a railroad town on the San Antonio and Rio Grande Railroad, west of today's downtown Austin. The town prospered as a cotton and cattle center until around 1920 when World War I and the stock market crash caused economic decline. In the 1970s, Cibolo became an agricultural town with extensive land holdings near present-day Dripping Springs. However, due to environmental degradation, some residents began to leave for more rural communities in Central Texas during this time period. In 2000, Cibolo voters passed a resolution proclaiming themselves "the unofficial capital of Webb County." This designation made it one of only two towns in Texas that has not been chartered as a county seat since its establishment in 1867 (the other being Brownsville). Today, most activities take place within or near downtown Austin; however, there are occasional events held outside of city limits such as rodeos or golf tournaments which are televised statewide. Cibolos history goes back to 1847 when Scots-Irish immigrants settled down along the San Antonio and Rio Grande Railroad east of today's downtown Austin on what is now known as Indian Hill Road. At first they worked fields alongside Native Americans but soon realized that they could get much higher value for their produce if they sold it to railroads running south through central Texas - something they had never done before! So they started trading goods with these new friends and soon enough they had set up their own store front next door to one of those early railways stationmasters! They were able to make good money selling everything from groceries straight off the train onto those long tables where people sat eating lunch while waiting for trains heading south! And so it truly began...The Scots Irish who founded Cibolo intended this little town primarily for themselves but quickly got word out about all the great things going on hereabouts: The beautiful scenery (including some amazing waterfalls), good fishing opportunities (especially around Dripping Springs), friendly people who were willing to help you every step of your way - whether it was getting married or starting a business...It wasn't long before everyone wanted to be part of this growing community - especially because nobody wanted anything more thanto help somebody else succeed!"
Crime in Cibolo, Texas increased from the early 1800s until the late 1960s. In 1853, Buford Law enforcement officer George A. Smith discovered a group of outlaws operating in the area and took them on as criminals. The outlaw gang was known as the Gadsden Gang and their leader was Nathan Bedford Forrest. The gang operated for several years before getting caught and being brought to justice by Buford Law Enforcement Officer George A. Smith.
