In 1933-1934 construction began on what is now known as the world's largest precast concrete bridge - nicknamed "The Beast" because of its height and width - crossing Loop 410 just east of downtown Cibolo . Work continued through World War II for Project Eager (later called Pecan Belt Highway), which connected Dallas with Houston via Loop 410; however, much of that highway remains unbuilt today due to lack of funding or engineering expertise among those involved. In 1951-1952 work commenced on what would become River Oaks Drive – one of two main arterial streets serving downtown Cibulo – following approval by voters for a bypass around downtown if necessary due to heavy traffic congestion caused by oil refineries along IH 10 west of town limits. In 1827, a group of Texans led by Colonel Sam Houston traveled to Cibolo Creek in present day Texas to claim the land for the Republic of Texas. In 1829, they established Fort Worth and named it after James Fenton, an American general who had fought in Mexico during the Mexican-American War. The town grew rapidly and by 1830 was home to over 1,000 people. In 1836, Fort Worth became the capital of the Republic of Texas following its victory in the Texan Rebellion against English rule.
