Cibolo, Texas is a small town in Collin County, Texas, United States. The population was 651 at the 2010 census. Cibolo is located on U.S. Route 287, just east of Fort Worth and west of Arlington. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area and is one of the most affluent areas in Texas. The town was founded by settlers in 1876 as a stop on the Butterfield Overland Mail route from Nacogdoches to Galveston. The post office was established in 1881, and the first store opened in 1882. In 1886, there were six businesses in Cibolo: four stores and two hotels. By 1910, there were twenty-one businesses with a total sales volume of $8 million. In 1916 Cibolo became a charter city status under Act 7 of the State Legislature; it has remained that way since then. In 1969 it annexed land from Waco; however, Waco refused to give up its water rights so Cibolo reverted back to being an unincorporated community within Collin County without annexation into Waco proper (Waco only annexes municipalities which are approved by the County Board).

Cibolo, Texas is a town located in Midland County, Texas. The population was 2,856 at the 2010 census. Cibolo began as an unincorporated community on the banks of the San Gabriel River and was named after Major General John H. Cibolo who fought in the Mexican-American War (1846-48). In 1872, the town became a seat of government for Midland County with its own courthouse and jail. In 1907, Cibolo annexed to Plano and had its own post office until it merged into Plano in 1957. From 1916 until 1959, when it became an independent city again under Mayor Edwin P. Yarborough's watch, Cibolo served as the county seat for Midland County. Afterward it reverted back to Plano as its sole municipal government during that time period before becoming an unincorporated community again in 1962. As of 2020, there are still no plans or efforts underway by either party to annex either of these municipalities back into their respective counties once they have reached their present populations levels
Although Cibolo was first settled in 1839, its history dates back to the 1700s when the area was part of the Spanish colony of Texas. The Creek people who lived in and around Cibolo populated the area for centuries before migrating to Oklahoma in the 1800s. In 1819, General Antonio López de Santa Anna discovered and named what is now Cibolo Creek after his home town of Stonington, Connecticut. After Mexican independence was ratified in 1821, Mexico ceded Texas to United States as a result of the Adams-Onís Treaty. As a result of this treaty, all Native American land east of the Rio Grande were handed over to U.S. government control including most of what is now known as Texas. As part of their new jurisdiction, the US military barracks at Fort Worth were constructed on what is now Loop 410 near present day University Park Boulevard in 1840 as Camp Bowie. The fort served as a garrison for troops stationed along both sides of the Rio Grande until it was sold to Sam Houston in 1846 and converted into an arsenal used by US forces during The Mexican-American War (1847-48).
