Cedar Park is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. Cedar Park is located on the border of Richardson and Grapevine Counties. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The first settlers in what would become Cedar Park were French Canadian soldiers who arrived in 1769 during the Seven Years' War. In 1836, James Hogg and his family established a cattle Rancho Hogg near present-day Cedar Park when they realized that there was no other place to farm in Tarrant County. A post office called Hogg's Landing was established in 1838, and renamed Cedar Park in honor of General James Hogg. In 1849, the Texas Railroad Company built a line from Galveston to Fort Worth and began building stations west of today's downtown district. One such station was called Garden City Junction (later renamed Arlington), which served as the eastern terminus for trains traveling north to Fort Worth and south to Dallas. By 1870, traffic on the Texas Railroad had increased so much that it necessitated new tracks east of town along Elm Street until finally reaching Arlington Station where passengers could board trains for eitherDallas or Fort Worth. In 1911, following annexation by Dallas County, Cedar Park became part of Richardson Township; however, it remained locally independent until 1923 when its own government was organized as an independent school district with headquarters located within present day Cedar Park Boulevard/Ziggy Road area bounded by I-635/Hwy 83 south / Crossroads Drive east / Live Oak Drive north). In 1984 Dickinson College opened its doors within walking distance of then-civic center adjacent to current site of City Hall including lawn care services for students residing on University Avenue between Garfield Boulevard and Live Oak Drive; this event also marked commencement ceremonies for Dickinson's Southwestern Heights Campus whichlater became known as Dickinson College proper (though with separate administrations within both districts). In 1954, it became a suburb of Austin after City Council approved annexation into Austin.
