The first post office opened in Cedar Park on December 2, 1879. In 1905, Cedar Park became an incorporated town with a population of 15 residents. On November 3, 1955, Cedar Park annexed the neighbouring unincorporated community of Springtown which had a population of 10 residents at the time annexation occurred. In January 2007, it was announced that construction was underway to build what would become the world's largest shopping mall - NRG Stadium / Texans Stadium - within the boundaries of Cedar Park. The project would significantly impact the local economy and communities surrounding it including Springtown and Tomball which were both annexed into Cedar Park during its development process; however both communities have since regained their own independent economies and civic structures without having to rely on NRG Stadium/Texans Stadium for their economic sustenance

It also became home to Baylor University during that time before being transferred to TCU University in 1998. Additionally, many small businesses have been established within the town since its inception such as Dole's grocery store and Hooters restaurant.
