The first European settlers in what is now Cedar Park were Frenchmen who came to work on the Houston Railroad. The town was named for Cedar Point, a small salt water port on Buffalo Bayou that served as a shipping point during the 18th century. In 1835, General Sam Houston's army passed through this region when they were retreating from New Mexico and stopped at the mouth of Buffalo Bayou for supplies and rest before continuing their journey northward. This event is considered to be Cedar Park's earliestknown claim to fame. In 1881, local entrepreneur John Wesley Hardin built an oil well in what is now Elm Street near his home. This well became known as "the wells of hardin". By 1886, Hardin had developed acreage around it which would eventually become known as Cedar Park Township (later renamed Hidalgo County). On July 4th of that year, Hardin donated land including present-day Elm Street and portions of Fair Oaks Avenue to serve as an open-air parkland across from his well site where people could picnic and play games according to local custom until 1892 when state law prohibited public recreation on military or Civil War battlefields without specific permits from individual property owners. Public use began with ceremonies held by Mayor Jeter Averill in 1893 after he obtained authority from state legislators to commemorate Independence Day by creating a public recreation area comprising today's east side streets running south along Buffalo Bayou towards downtown Dallas/Fort Worth - then called Springtown - thence down Elm Street past Mr. Hardin's house all the way back up into Easy Oaks Cemetery - thus marking one end and another beginning for what would become Cedar Park Township: With its shopping center at US 75 & Preston Road; its industrial areas just east of I-10; its zoned agricultural areas stretching northwest all the way to Oak Cliff; its vast open space west of I-10 between Elm and Willow Streets; everything within easy reach but never too close or too far away from any major city services like airports or highways...When referring nostalgically back today it feels like living history!

After war ended, economic stagnation took hold as many businesses closed their doors or shifted operations to other parts of Texas. However, some entrepreneurs began to revive downtown businesses and create new startups through creative marketing campaigns that targeted young professionals who were looking for job opportunities outside their traditional fields; this turnaround helped spur growth once again during subsequent decades! Cedar Park was founded in 1881 by John Wesley Powell and his wife Anna. The first post office was opened in Cedar Park on July 4, 1881. The town grew quickly and by 1886 there were over 100 residents. In 1916 Cedar Park had a population of 3000 people and it's first incorporation as a city. After World War II the population decreased until it reached its lowest point in the 1960s when it had only around 1000 residents. Since then, developers have brought new life to Cedar Park with new businesses and residences being built all around the community. Today, Cedar Park is one of the most vibrant areas in Texas with an active nightlife scene, excellent public schools, and plenty of recreation options available.
