The Cedar Park area of Texas was originally settled by the Comanches in the late 18th century. The town was renamed Austin in 1845 after General Stephen Austin, who had helped lead Texas to statehood. In 1865, Austin became the capital of Texas and Cedar Park became its second city. The city experienced rapid growth during the 19th century and by 1900 had a population of over 5,000 people. However, during World War II (1939-1945), Cedar park experienced significant destruction due to bombing raids by Japanese forces. As a result, the number of residents decreased significantly and eventually ceased operations after 1945.
