Cedar Park, Texas is home to the oldest gun range in the state of Texas. The range opened its doors in 1923 and has been providing customers with a safe place to shoot guns ever since. The gun range is located on Cypress Avenue just south of I-10. It offers both novice shooters and experienced shooters different opportunities to enjoy shooting at targets. The history of the Cedar Park gun range goes back even further than that. In 1872, Edwin Caldwell opened up his own rifle shop in Cedar Park. This shop served as a training ground for future Texan soldiers and law enforcement officers. After years of business success, Caldwell passed away in 1902 and his sons took over the store’s operations. The family continued running the business until it was acquired by John Hogg in 1957. Hogg became one of the longest-tenured owners of the Cedar Park Gun Range, operating it until his death in 1984. In 1924, George Fetterman purchased the property adjacent to Cedar Park Gun Range from John Hogg for $300 dollars cash! Fetterman had plans to make this property into a full-fledged gun range! He named his new facility Cedar Park Rifle & Pistol Club! Unfortunately, due to World War II, most of what was onsite during those days were destroyed! However, carbon Film reevaluation revealed that much valuable infrastructure had been preserved including some reconstructed targets!! In 1948, Fetterman again applied for permission to reopen his old target park but didn’t receive any response!!! It wasn’t until 1957 when he finally received permission from then Governor Miriam publication #3 (dated September 5th) which stated “It is hereby ordered that said George Fetterman may open an annual pistol match at www://www2a1c4rp56j5gv3hqyw/cedarpark/gunrange/index_html on October 1st”!!!!! Thus began what would be known as “The Great North American Match Shooters Championship Game Showcase !!!” That same year saw two other major matches held at CEM: One contested by riflemen from all over America taking part in a shootout competition; and another featuring shotguns ONLY taking place at CEM where competitors could fire off rounds from twenty feet away!!!! Needless to say these events ledto increased attendance at CEM as well as donations from various individuals who desired more access to this unique shooting experience!!!!!!!!
