Cedar Park is a city in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 27,724 at the 2010 census. Cedar Park is the second-largest city in Tarrant County after Fort Worth and it is the seat of Tarrant County government. It is also home to Baylor University and Rice University. The first permanent settler in what would become Cedar Park was James Fenton who built his cabin on the banks of Buffalo Bayou in 1836. The town site was chosen because of its advantageous location on an east-west route connecting Fort Worth and Dallas. A post office was established at Cedar Park on July 24, 1837, under the name "Fenton." In 1839, John Hargrave laid out a townsite that would become known as "Hargrave Heights." On July 10, 1840, Austin Smith opened a store near present day Main Street and Elm Drive in what became known as "Smithville." A post office called "Austin" was established thereon on December 1st, 1840. By 1847 Cedar Park had a population of 1000 residents and by 1850 it had increased to 1500 residents. In 1851 local merchant General William Howells donated land to build Baylor College which began operations that year with nine students from Texas A&M University (TAMU). That same year another donation from Howells allowed for the construction of Rice University which began classes in 1893. In 1865 Union Pacific Railroad built a line through Cedar Park servicing nearbyDallas while also building new tracks within town limits linking it with Dallas proper; this provided impetus for downtown development which continued until today with few exceptions being two blocks north of Main Street - now First National Bank Plaza - comprising most of present day downtown Cedar Park center back then including much of East Side streets running north-south between Live Oak Road/US Highway 75W Loop 1604 (now I-35) and Loop 1605 (now US Highway 671). Today much has changed since those days with only small portions remaining unexcavated except for some remnants along Elm Drive/Main Street between Live Oak Road/US Highway 75W Loop 1604 (now I-35) & Loop 1605 (& Houston Mills Rd), just south off FM 19604(Rte 620) about one half mile northeast from I-635's western terminus Prior to incorporation as a municipality many annexation requests were made by individual businesses or individuals seeking to annex their property closer to Interstate 35 or other major highways but all annexation requests were rejected due to lack or insufficient platting information available at that time

Cedar Park is located on the banks of the Trinity River and is bordered by Lakewood to the north, Denton to the east, Garland to the south, and Mesquite to the west. The town was founded in 1872 by settlers from Kentucky and Indiana. Cedar Park became a city in 1931 and has since been one of Dallas County's most populous towns. It achieved national attention as the setting for The Lone Ranger television series.
Cedar Park was founded in 1887 by John H. Cedar and his wife, Anna L. Cedar. The Cedar Park post office was established in 1888. The first settlers arrived in 1887 and the community grew quickly. In 1893, the first school was built and it served the town until 1917 when a new school was built. The First Baptist Church was constructed in 1907 and it served as the town's church for many years. In 1916, Cedar Park became a city and its first mayor was John Davenport. The city government initially consisted of aldermen and residents voted on issues such as taxes, public works, etcetera. In 1952, voters passed an ordinance annexing Cedar Park to Dallas County which made it a part of the larger municipality.
