Cedar Park is a small town in Hidalgo County, Texas, United States. The population was 3,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. Cedar Park's history dates back to 1875 when it was called "Holloway". The community first came into existence as a result of the wagon train that passed through on their way from Mexico City to Lubbock. The first gun barrel made in Cedar Park was constructed by John Pemberton in 1876. For many years, guns and ammunition were manufactured here by family members of those who operated the local forge and mill. In 1903, general store owner Jethro Gibbs donated land on which a new factory would be built to produce firearms and other related products. That same year saw the opening of one of Cedar Park's most famous businesses: Armoury Ammunition & Supply Company (later Armamentarium). This company became an important force in both retail and manufacturing sales for many years; it remains headquartered in Cedar Park today. Throughout its history, Armamentarium has been responsible for creating some of Cedar Park's most iconic icons; such as its popular "Pewter Dome" sign outside the store - displayed until recently still unused today! The store also hosted several annual Gun shows throughout its tenure including one held at nearby Sam Houston State University in 1984 which drew over 100,000 spectators! In 1868, General George Armstrong Custer was driving his horse herd south through Cedar Park when he came across an Indian encampment consisting of 5 hundred warriors and fifteen horses. As he rode past, he called out "Cedar Park!" The Indians responded with "Aye!" which led to General Custer thinking that Cedar Park must be where he should camp for the night while his command explored today's Arlington Heights neighborhood northeast of downtown Dallas
