Cedar Park is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,828 at the 2010 census. Cedar Park is located on FM 1960 and TX 620. The ZIP code of 88623 has a population of 9,471 as of the 2000 census. The name Cedar Park may come from the cedar tree that once stood in the town square. Village residents often donated logs to build churches and other civic buildings in Cedar Park during the early 1900s. In 1906, General store businessman George Sutherfield donated land for what would become Cedar Park Cemetery; it was named for him and his wife Clara after they moved to Cedar Park from Wichita Falls, Kansas. In 1911, local resident John Hargrave donated land for what would become Methodist Church West; it was also called Methodist Church West at that time. The first service occurred on July 6th of that year. The current church building was completed in 1915 by architects Rice and Ellis with funding provided by Mrs Hargrave and donations from her son-in-law Harry Crain Jr.. It is one of three surviving churches in Cedar Park dating back to those days – along with Presbyterian (1893) and Baptist (1911). During World War II, many people who lived near Fort Worth fled to Texas because OFA air raids were common in that part of the country during that time period.
