The first post office was established in1868, and it served as the base of operations for many early residents of Cedar Park. One of the most important events which took place in Cedar Park occurred on October 16, 1886 when Lillie Cushing became Mrs. John Hoggard and they moved into their present home at 715 W Belchertown Rd., becoming one of the first married couples in Texas to live together under one roof. Mrs. Hoggard would later become an influential figure within local government and politics A railroad connection was made to Cedar Park by way of Huntsville on November 3, 1887 with the opening of The Houston & Galveston Railroad Company’sHuntsville Branch Line which ran through present-day Hempstead and Newton Streets intersection before terminating near Farm Road 614 east of downtown Houston
