Cedar Park is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,403 at the 2010 census. Cedar Park is part of the Tyler, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is bordered by the city of Tyler to the east and north, United States Air Force Base Hill Air Force Station to the west, and Brush Prairie Township to the south. The first settler in Cedar Park was James Waddell who arrived in 1836. He named his settlement after a cedar tree that he saw while on horseback near present-day Cedar Park Boulevard and I-635. In 1838, John Littlefield built a log cabin on what is now Elm Street in Cedar Park. Littlefield had come from Illinois and been surveyor for Hudspeth County before moving to Texas in 1837. He opened a general store in Cedar Park with his brother William Littlefield until their store burned down in 1840. In 1853, General Ulysses S Grant visited Hudspeth County and noticed an area known as "Springs", which lay between present-day Springdale Road (northwest side) and Greenville Road (southwest side). Grant decided that this area should be called Cedar Park because of its many cedars which grew thereabouts. In 1865, Lieutenant Colonel John Hance established Camp Hood on private land north of Springs within present day Springdale Road/Greenville Road boundaries; this became Camp Hance upon its establishment during World War II as an airbase used by American forces RAF India Head airstrip), leading eventually to its current name of Fort Sam Houston National Military Cemetery & Memorial Site >. The post office opened at Springs on November 15th 1870 under the name Central Arkansas Post Office; it was renamed Cedar Rapids on October 25th 1880 due to concerns about possible Indian raids into southern Iowa Territory during that time period >. On May 3rd 1893 Preston Wetherbee donated land adjacent to Elm Street/Indian Creek for use as a Methodist Episcopal church; this church later became First Baptist Church (now First Covenant Presbyterian Church) >. On December 2nd 1907 all post offices within Hudspeth County were combined under one roof at Central Arkansas Post Office; this office later became known as Fort Worth Post Office due to its proximity to downtown Fort Worth CBD).
