In 2006-2007 businesses closed due to an economic recession; however Most residents have since recovered and are now back into their pre-recession lifestyles. Cedar Park is a city in San Antonio County, Texas, United States. As of the 2010 census it had a population of 82,828. Cedar Park was founded on November 15, 1887 by James S. Caldwell and his wife Lillie A. Caldwell as an agricultural center for the area around San Antonio. The city was named after Cedar Creek which flows through the city limits. The first school in Cedar Park was built on what is now Elm Street in 1895. In 1903, the City Hall building and three other buildings were erected on land donated by Mrs. Fenton Dixon to house the public schools in town. The first high school in Cedar Park was opened in 1923 and became known as East High School until it closed in 1971 because of budget problems associated with the Vietnam War era (the school district then moved to John Fenton Middle School). In 1954, East High School moved to its current location at 254 Elm Street while West High School remained at East Campus until it closed in 1984 due to low enrollment there; it reopened as Southside High School under new nameplates following that year's annexation of nearby Slaughterhouse Station into Cedar Park when that community merged with its predecessor municipality.
