Cedar Hill is a small town in Williamson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The Cedar Hill Optical Company was founded in 1885 by J.D. Caldwell and C.V. Smith as a store selling optical supplies and equipment to farmers in the local area. In 1915, the company became known as Cedar Hill Supply Company and began producing its own products such as telescopes and microscopes under the name Cedar Hills optics Inc.. In 1951, Cedar Hill Supply Company merged with Bausch & Lomb Corporation to form Bausch & Lomb Optical Corporation which continued to produce products for both retail and institutional customers until it ceased sales in 1984. During World War II, North American Aviation developed an aerial photo-reproducer called "Pete" which used a camera on a helicopter to take pictures of targets from above using infra-red light bulbs (later replaced by television). After the war, lumber dealers started marketing radios that could be connected tolegraph networks so they could receive voice messages while they were being delivered; these receivers were also called "telephones". One early customer was Major General Leonard Wood whose headquarters were located near Arlington Cemetery in Virginia; during WWII he needed an extra telephone line for his staff so he ordered two sets of telephones from Eastern Telephone Laboratories (ETL) - one for each end of his command detachment's telephone line! A group of men from Carthage (now Plano) donated land along Clear Creek so that people could build homes without being affected by waterlogging during World War II shortages caused by bombings in Europe. Because this donation came about through good will rather than economic necessity, it has been called one of Plano's most meaningful moments in history. Many members of this group are still living here today - including Mayor Dean Weisman - who helped shape much of what later happened with CedarHill over 50 years ago! As more families arrived over time (particularly after World War II), industry began taking hold in downtown CedarHill with new businesses like machine shops and tire stores opening up around 1950s-60s Sam Boyd Lumber Company becoming one such business Pioneer Rubber Co., soda fountain owner/operator Bob Hickey & Sons Inc., First National Bank (now Hooters Steak House), El Paso Pizza founder Donny Epps Sr., etc.– all While maintaining a unique character that sets them apart from other businesses located within Downtown Joe's All-American Furniture Store which closed down several decades ago! By 1990s Main Street had become almost deserted except for local stores like Bick's Sporting Goods which had relocated out into Midtown Joe's across Elm Street since then! Today things are slowly starting to change again as more recent arrivals have brought back antique shops (& even a full sized replica canon shooting range!), art galleries (& live music venues!), high school youth sports teams (!), florists (& craft breweries!) – but there is no question that Downtown Joe's remains quite remarkable & beloved throughout Central Texas!
