Cedar Hill is located on the southern edge of Bexar County and borders San Antonio to the east and Midtown Dallas to the west. It is bordered by Elmendorf to the north and northeast, Uptown Dallas to the northwest, Commerce Center to the southwest, and Plano to the southeast. The first settler in Cedar Hill was James Wetherbee who arrived in 1836. Wetherbee's family moved from Massachusetts and settled on a farm near what is now downtown Cedar Hill. In 1838 John Clements built a sawmill on his farm which became one of Cedar Hills most important businesses. In 1840-1841 Edwin Hodge established a gristmill on his farm which also became an important business in Cedar Hill during this time period. In 1850 George Robert McMurtry founded Cedar Hill Academy which still exists today as one of Central Texas' top private schools. In 1870 John Denton bought some land around what is now Saginaw Street in order to build his new cotton gin factory; however, due to financial difficulties he had to sell parts of his plot including this part of CedarHill for $2 per acre ($10 per block). This event helped spur development within CedarHill during this time period with many new homes being built as a result of this sale alone. By 1875 there were over 100 residents living in CedarHill while it still consisted of just four blocks wide strips that formed its centerblock or "village square". By 1890 there were over 300 people living in CedarHill while it now encompassed five blocks wide strips that formed its centralblock or "city square". During World War II area resident supported The United States Navy through their production of munitions such as torpedoes and bombs; they also raised livestock for use by Navy personnel stationed at Naval Station Corpus Christi (later Naval Air Station Corpus Christi) across town where hay was cut into long lengths and transported across railroad tracks directly into naval shipyards for launch into open water off Corpus Christi Bay where these torpedoes were made ready for combat against Japanese warships before launching back out into open water again for strikes against Japanese targets ashore; all without ever leaving their homes! Cedar Hill is a small town in Tyler County, Texas, United States. The population was 605 at the 2010 census. Cedar Hill is part of the Tyler–Fort Worth Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settlers in Cedar Hill were Andrew and Sarah Randall who came there in 1836. They founded a log cabin on the present site of Cedar Hill High School. TheRandalls were replaced by James Hargrave and his family in 1853. Hargrave built a new log cabin on the same spot as Cedar Hill Middle School, which remained standing until it burned down in 1916. A post office called Cedar Hill was established in 1854, and continued to serve until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1865, John Neal moved from Missouri toTyler County and started an agricultural enterprise known as "Neal's Mill." He erected a millrace around his mill which powered early watermills for local farmers. In 1876, he donated land to form what is now CedarHill Ranch State Park. The ranch has been home to many distinguished Dallasites including Governor George Wickersham and actor Harry Morgan。 The early years of the 20th century saw much growth at Cedar Hill with many people coming here to work on various farms or businesses such as Copley Lumber Company (now JCPenney), Knights Templers Creamery (now Weetabix), Baylor University (later Baylor Health System), Methodist Episcopal Church (later First Baptist Church) and others . World War I slowed down development but after that things picked up again with more people moving into the area during Prohibition; however most residents left during the Great Depression when hard times hit everything from agriculture to manufacturing . However some people stayed through World War II due to its military potential including General Motors plant #1 which produced tanks for America’s war effort . After the war ended there was still talk about developing some sort of community center but nothing ever happened aside from some construction projects like building a pump station for water systems or adding sewer lines .. finally one day back in 2009 when developers announced they had found oil under hilltop property causing excitement among locals as well as outsiders who had been watching developments since 2007
