Dixon in 1872 and it was located on Elm Street. The store changed hands several times before it closed its doors for good in 1903. It reopened under new ownership and continued to operate until it closed again in 1966. The next gun store to open was located on Commerce Avenue and it operated for about 10 years before shutting its doors for good in 1978. On November 15, 1879, Reverend Halsey preached his first sermon at what would become known as “The Settlement”; this was also the location where he established church services and officiated at local funerals until 1898 when he relocated back to Mobile Bayou for fear of being profaned by Indian miscreants who frequented that vicinity uninvited! In 1927, Cedar Hill became one of six towns annexed byHouston from Montgomery County . That year saw many advances in transportation thanks to construction of the Houston–Galveston Railroad followed shortly thereafter by highway development which made living conditions much better within these newly annexed communities than they had been within Montgomery County where farm land still lay fallow!
