Cedar Hill is a small town in Karnes County, Texas, United States. The population was 4,425 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. Cedar Hill was founded in 1871 by settlers from Illinois. The community was first known as Cedar Grove and it changed its name to Cedar Hill in 1876 after a survey led by Elisha Gray found that a large forest lay adjacent to the community. The first post office opened in 1881 and remained open until 1915. From 1850 until 1861, Cedar Grove was part of Lamar County; then it became part of Karnes County on January 1, 1865. In 1886, the Texas Central Railroad built a branch line from Arlington to Cedar Grove and began serving the community. The railroad left the townspeople with only one choice: they had to move or lose their businesses and homes to the new railroad company. The residents chose to move and within two years all of their businesses had been moved too—to make way for the new line. The growth of Cedar Hill began slowly but steadily over time; according to 1990 census data, there were just 579 people living in town when it incorporation occurred that year (compared with 2,683 people inhabiting Fort Worth at this point). In 2000, however, things started picking up steam as more people moved into town beginning what has been characterized as an "unstoppable" growth trend ever since – not only due to annexation by Fort Worth but also because of various economic opportunities available within close proximity (including several major retailers which have set up shop near central park). Today's residents are scattered throughout surrounding towns including Richardson Village (just east of Center Point Mall), Carrizo Springs Village (just south of I-10), Villages West (northwest of downtown),Villages East (northeast of downtown), and Colony Park(southwest/southeast/northwest corner Of University Blvd.). This variety has resulted in an increasingly unique flavor consistent with any given locale – something that sets Cedar Hill apart from other similar communities across North America."

In 1929, Cedar Hill Elementary School opened its doors to students from local schools. In 1954, Cedar Hill became an unincorporated community when it merged with Greenville.
