John Ahern came overland from Ireland on horseback on October 9th, 1847 with his family for unknown reasons but he soon became well known throughout Texas for his cattle drives across what is now Flower Mound Prairie (now Parkland) near Temple Mills Road/South Beltway 8 south of I-635E (now Interstate 10). On December 5th 1860 twelve families transplanted themselves from Wichita Falls Rancho Chihuahua into four lots donated by Judge Wm Hines east of Nacogdoches road: two lots raised by settler James Brown; one lot donated by Colonel Robert Ewell during Mexican War hostilities; and one lot donated by George Washington Wells which included land between Nacogdoches Road/South Beltway 8 and Bowie Creek which became known as Welles Valley after him. In 1865 when General Sam Houston was elected President pro tempore United States Congress he granted citizenship to all Texans regardless of race so long as they were registered with government services including voting privileges which opened up many opportunities for upward mobility for those living below poverty lines at that time especially women and African Americans who status changed dramatically following Reconstruction beginning in 1865 through 1870 when laws were passed allowing black males to vote while discriminating against them financially and educationally until they reached full legal rights in 1907 under Jim Crow laws or “segregation” following World War II when integration occurred statewide resulting in increased poverty among Black Americans followed immediately thereafter by opposite trends with social inequality increasing until today where income disparities continue despite increases in public education spending since 1980 paralleling overall progress made towards closing economic gaps

In 1970, Cedar Hill was designated a city by then-Mayor Rick Perry.Today, much of what made Cedar Hill such an important community has been lost to time or destruction; however, remnants can still be seen throughout town including several churches dating back to the early 1800s and baseball diamonds from when CedarHill was a key stop on stagecoach routes across central Texas.
