Canyon, Texas is a small town located in the heart of the American Southwest. It is bordered by Webb County to the north, Nueces County to the east, and Williamson County to the south. The population was 7,890 as of 2010. Canyon has a history that goes back over 100 years. For many years it was an agricultural village located on high ground overlooking the San Antonio River. In 1915, Cannon Manufacturing Company began production of pronouncing pistols in Canyon and established a reputation for quality products. This company became known as “The People’s Pistol Maker” and continued operations until 1970 when it merged with Winchester Repeating Firearms Company. In 1940, Winchester introduced its new BSA Model 10 Rifle which quickly became popular among canyon residents due to its accuracy and design features. The rifle was soon adapted for use in other Western towns such as Socorro, New Mexico and El Paso, Texas both of which were located near Cannon Manufacturing Company plants at that time. By 1945 both companies had closed their Canyon plants but residual production continued at Socorro until 1954 when all remaining firearms were destroyed in a fire caused by faulty welding practices at one of Winchesters plant facilities in Colorado Springs CO

Canyon is a city in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 8,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The first white settler in what became Canyon was Hiram Clarke in 1836. A post office called Canyon was established in 1854, and it remained in operation until 1907. The town site was platted by Nathan Bedford Forrest and fellow landowner James Polk during the early 19th century as a working rancho for cattle drives to nearby Austin. By 1870, about one-third of the citizens were Anglo Americans and most of the rest Mexican Americanos. The railroads arrived on the scene during this time and changed all that; by 1880 Canyon had 5 businesses and 150 residents. In 1925 Cedar Valley School District merged with Hudspeth County schools; Canyon students continued to attend Cedar Valley until 1938 when they were merged into Round Rock High School (now Austin High School). In 1962 Highland Park Independent School District merged with Hudspeth County schools; Highland Park students continued to attend Canyon until 1985 when they were absorbed into Round Rock High School (now Austin High School). In 1978, Loop 1604 opened up from I-35 south through downtown Austin along Hwy 290/Loop 1604 so there would be more commuting options for people living near Interstate 35E north of town center but still within range of local high school athletes who fields games throughout summer months inside their stadiums just east of IHOP on FM 1401 about 3 miles off HWY 290 on Loop 1604 which has been my home since 1977

In 1945, when Canyon's water source dried up due to overuse by locals for irrigation purposes, the city council authorized development of a new water supply from wells within . The economy of Canyon has been based primarily on agriculture ever since its founding; however, there have been some recent developments that have led to increased tourism and retail activity in the area: In 2007, Canyon implemented an ordinance allowing business owners to open their doors without prior notice during summertime hours without having to obtain a license from the city; this policy has resulted in many businesses opening their doors late into the night and early morning during summer months which has helped increase visitation during those times
