Canyon, Texas is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population at the 2010 census was 711. Canyon is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1871 by pioneers who built a ranch and log cabin on the banks of the Arkansas River. The name "Canyon" comes from Spanish meaning "a ravine." In 1907, the first post office was established in Canyon and it remained open until 1912 when it was moved to Round Rock. As a result of its location close to Austin, Canyon became one of the most important commercial centers in Hudspeth County. At its peak during the 1930s, Canyon had over 100 businesses including general stores, barber shops, theatres and hotels. However, since then manufacturing has become more predominant with only five businesses remaining today that are involved in manufacturing: two restaurants and two medical equipment distributors. Today's economy relies heavily on agriculture which accounts for about 60% of canyon's revenue. Agriculture includes crops such as corn and soybeans; livestock such as cattle and pigs; and forestry operations such as timber harvesting or lumber production. Cattle are ranched here but also sell their product through feedlots located outside of canyon borders

Canyon is a city in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 7,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Tarrant County. Canyon was founded by Mexicans in 1878 as part of the Rancho de las Vegas Grant land grant. As a result of the Mexican-American War (1846-1848), the U.S. acquired most of this area and incorporated it into Arlington County on November 3, 1881. In 1903, Organ Pipe Canyons National Monument was established in Canyon to protect Mesa Verde National Park from development and vandalism caused by cowboys and others living near the park's popular hiking trails. In 1933, during World War II, much of western Tarrant County was placed under martial law because of fears that Japanese Americans might be entombed or interned there without proper legal documentation or compensation. The city hall building located near loop 101A highway became temporary military headquarters for local sheriff's deputies who were used to deal with any possible nation-wide threats posed by Axis forces occupying Europe at that time. Today, Canyon is an interesting stop on various tourist routes running through central Texas; its downtown business district features several large boutiques selling items made in Mexico such as clothing and home decor products from Jalisco province; and its waterfalls provide both exciting day hikes and more peaceful overnight stays within close proximity to beautiful attractions like Painted Rock Amphitheater (a replica of Paleolithic cave art found in nearby Aztec Ruins) and Garden Haus State Park just northeast of town on US 287 The first habitation in what is now Canyon dates back to 1878 when Mexicans arrived via wagon train to purchase land grants totaling some 2,500 acres (1 km²). These Grants were part of Rancho de las Vegas which had been awarded to José Antonio Durán y Pavón 8 years earlier following his victory over General Antonio López de Santa Anna at Buena Vista Creek on July 10th 1836 during the Mexican–American War. When American troops entered Mexico City on October 29th 1847 they discovered vast amounts of gold reserves dating back to before Independence including some 15 million pesos hidden among deposits beneath San Miguel de Allende hillock(now known as El Coyote Hill). The discovery began a process called “extraction” whereby spanish interests began purchasing adjacent ranchos throughout Southwestern Mexico especially San Fernando Valley while Anglo investors leased or bought portions of these properties off Mexican soil for cattle drive operations including those taking place at Churubusco Pass located about 12 miles east southwest (near present day Georgetown) across Socorro River canyon using today’s Loop 101A Highway access road which then became Ortega Road leading south down into Chaparral National Forest after crossing coursewise US 530 just east southeast (southwest side)of today’s town limits originally known as Indian Wells until 1886 when Rd Mapleton/ Mapleton Mill & Post Office opened along current day Loop 101A Spanish Trail signs still extant indicate original route followed
