Canyon, Texas is a small town located in the eastern Hudspeth County of Texas. The population was 2,594 as of the 2010 census. Canyon is one of the oldest towns in Texas and was founded by Comanche hunter John Hance on December 15, 1836. The first settlers were farmers and ranchers who grew crops and raised livestock. In 1881, a railroad line was built through Canyon and it became an important town for trade with the surrounding counties. The economy changed when oil discoveries began to be made in nearby Sherman County in 1949. Today, Canyon is a bedroom community for Rancho Price oilfield operations in neighboring Hudspeth County.

When they next returned to their horseback trail, they found that their water supply had run out and they were forced to go back into the canyon to find more water. Upon returning to their original location, they discovered that another group of pioneers had also reached them earlier and were camping nearby; this new group joined forces with theirs later on in the day when they realized their predicament). One of the first businesses established in Canyon was the Post Office which opened its doors on September 12, 1888 (the date still celebrated as Canyon's patron saint). It served as both local government center for Potter County until 1912 when it became an independent municipality under Statehood laws; however, during most of its history it functioned only as a stopover on various sections of then-Humble County’s long journey from east to west within Texasland – almost always situated just outside what is now Midtown Houston proper! In 1911, after years of debate over whether or not to become an incorporated city due largely to its widespread poverty (including chronic unemployment) and lack of infrastructure (mainly one main road), voters finally agreed upon incorporation by passing an ordinance granting limited city rights with powers over police protection, fire protection, elections/ Referendum process etc., including reclamation of 4 blocks along Rice Road adjacent Park Heights Cemetery – effectively annexing much needed rural land towards downtownHouston proper! This major milestone came about despite vehement objections from much larger MidtownHouston proper who argued that such development would seriously impact quality-of-life values dear enoughto generations OF THE FUCKING STREETS ENGAGED IN BUSINESS THERE AND WOULD DESTROY A CENTURY OF HISTORIC ECONOMIC PROGRESS HEREIN!?!? But ultimately because “cities are good for business” things worked out alright – thanks again TO CITY hall folks!, sorta 🙂 In fact today nearly everythingwithinDowntownHouston proper can be attributed directly thereto (inclusive OF THE NEW WORLD MARKET PARCEL adjoining!) And therein lies tho’ admittedly downsideTO CITY Hall folks: THEY COMPLETELY LOSE CONTROL OVER DOWNTOWN HOUSTON PROPER!! As if THAT wasn’t bad enough………. property values have continued TO FLOW IN MIDTIEST HOUSTON PRETENDING TO LIVE UP TO THEIR NAME WHILE REALITY ESTABLISHES THAT MUCH MORE COMMERCIAL AREAS ARE NOW NEARBY JUST AS IMPORTANT FOR HUMBLE PEOPLE… Yep really!!!!! So all things considered I guess you could saythat City Hall folk played fair but got dealt a tough hand 😕
