Canyon, TX is an interesting town tucked away in the middle of nowhere. It's also home to one of the most important gun ranges in Texas. The old ranch here was once a major center for cowboy culture and firearm production. Today, it still houses a fewGunsmiths, but most people visit the Range to shoot at targets or take part in other shooting activities. The first firearms were created here at the old ranch. In 1869, Johnnie Lane bought some land north of Canyon and began manufacturing rifles and shotguns there. He named his business after himself - Johnnie Lane Rifle & Shotgun Factory. Over time, more businesses moved into this area - such as Gunmakers' Supply Company in 1916 and Western Arms Armory in 1948. Today, Canyon has over 350 gun retailers/shops spread out over 20 acres - making it one of the biggestgun Ranges in Texas! There are many different types of handguns available here including revolvers (9mm and .38 Special), pistols ( Beretta 92FS and Glock 19), shotguns ( pump action shotguns like Remington 870 shotgun, Mossberg 590 shotgun, Savage Model 706 bolt-action rifle) and rifles ( Winchester Model 70 Repeater). The history of the Canyon gun target range begins with a ranching business in the early 1900s. In 1911, the first shotgun range in Canyon opened, and it continued to serve as a training ground for future ranchers and farmers. The 1st Texas Infantry Regiment was quartered at the ranch during World War I, and many of their guns were used at the range. In 1927, John W. Hargrave founded Hargrave's Gun Shop near where present-day Park Ave. and Crestview Pkwy. meet in Canyon. The shop specialized in purchasing and selling firearms, ammunition, and accessories. It was Here that rifle shooters from all over started attending NRA matches around Lone Star State come to compete against each other on various riflesights and barrels. The NRA first made its appearance at Canyon when it hosted an exhibition there in 1928 showcasing new American pistols being developed by Smith & Wesson Firearms Company executives Harry Merrick (president) and George Weavel (vice president). The event attracted attention from throughout the Lone Star State due to its high quality firearms competition along with interesting displays of American industry’s newest products by top manufacturers like Colt Firearms Corporation, Winchester Repeating Arms Company, Remington Arms Company, Savage Arms Corporation etc., which had never been seen before outside of Midwestern cities like Chicago or New York City! After several years of successful hosting of such exhibitions both locally and regionally through club meetings held annually until 1942 by representatives from NRA Headquarters then located in Springfield MA; finally on October 20th 1942 , NRA Board Resolution was passed authorizing Vice President Harry Merrick to open a Pistol Range within 100 yards pistol shooting distance inside Municipal Limits of Canyon County provided access is given free unlimited number hunting licenses for residents thereof who are qualified under current laws governing deer hunting on Municipal property subject to restrictions set forth herein!
Canyon is a town in Starr County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,545 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The first European settlement in what is now Canyon was made by Captain George Williamson and his party of Texans on October 9, 1836. They named their new settlement after the canyon that ran along the border of their county. The original settlers were all men and only built one house, which still stands today as part of the town's history. On November 15, 1836, Mexico ceded Texas to Spain through Treaty of Goliad. This event provided an opportunity for American citizens to claim Rancho San Marcos Mexican land east of present day Canyon. On December 8, 1836, SpanishSoldiers killed six Americans while they were working on this land claim with hand grenades during a surprise attack near Coyote Creek Bridge (present day Loop 410). Aftermath of this battle led to increased Anglo-American activity in what is now Canyon and spurred development there over time In 1859 Jedediah Smith went upriver from Austin to explore possible routes for wagon trains across the Sabine River into California via Brownsville and Guadalupe Pass through Canyon but did not find anything useful so returned home without making any further progress On February 14, 1912 Tom Laughlin founded Consolidated Copper Mines in what is now Canyon with help from his father John Ralston Laughlin Sr., brother James Doolittle Jr., and others. The company mined copper until it became bankrupt in 1914 During World War II many people worked at munitions plants located throughout Starr County including those who developed Plano which surrounds present day Canyon Afterward many people left the area because of high school tuition rates and lack thereof when compared to other rural areas in Texas In recent years much redevelopment has taken place within the boundaries of modern-day Canyon with some commercial developments such as North Park Place currently being built next door to historic Fort Worth Baptist Church which served as a military post during World War II

They journeyed up into Canadian country until they reached what is now White Sands National Monument near Socorro on October 28th, 1881 – one day before US President James Kenedy signed an Executive Order creating the monument which included much of southern New Mexico Territory south of Rio Grande The first inhabitants were Mexican Zacatecas Indians who had been pushed out of their ancestral lands near Pecos about three decades earlier during an unsuccessful attempt by General Antonio López de Santa Anna as part of his war against Plains Indian Chief Cochise This episode known as Tejas cost Santa Anna his life because Cochise successfully killed most or all of Santa Anna's forces despite being outnumbered two-to-one Afterward ranch hands began moving into what are now eastern Johnson County and western Canyon County beginning around 1870s when cattle drives started bringing settlers down from Kansas Territory . By 1880 there were more than 200 families living here including farmers, ranchers, miners, trackers and army men who built small towns along routes used for transportation such as Stagecoach Road that ran through present day northeast Durango then up into Chihuahua Province before coming back down again . Many people started businesses such as banks, grocery stores and saloons but also smaller farms that produced products like cottonseed oilseed , hay , wheat flour etc . Eventually these businesses became larger enough to support themselves with own families while still providing transportation east/west across state lines via stage coach companies
