The history of firearms in Canyon, Texas can be traced back to the early 1800s. In that time, the area was known as the Rancho de la Bahia de los Negros and was home to a number of Native American tribes. One of these tribes was the Lipan Apache and they were responsible for developing what is now Canyon County. Around 1867, Captain John Lubbock discovered oil well near Coyote Hill and began drilling for oil. This led to a boom in the ranching industry and brought new people and businesses into town. The first store opened up in town in 1868. By 1870, Canyon had become an important stop on the Santa Fe Trail.
Canyon is a small town in Texas, located about 25 miles east of Amarillo on I-25. The population was 2,083 at the 2010 census. Canyon is part of the Amarillo–Amarillo Metropolitan Statistical Area. The canyon has been cut by many rivers and streams over the years. It is now formed by two branches of the Arkansas River that flow into the Rio Grande near Canyon. The river also forms a natural border between Texas and New Mexico. The first settlers in Canyon were French Canadians who had come to this area in 1827. They built Fort Concho (now downtown Amarillo) on the south bank of the Arkansas River to protect their trade with Mexican traders. In 1829, they founded an adjacent settlement, called Cache Valley for John Cone and James Irvine because they thought it would be more convenient to travel from one side of the canyon to the other through its narrow valley floor than through wider open land on either side. In 1861, during what became known as The War Between States, Confederate soldiers burned down both Cache Valley and Fort Concho before retreating back upriver to safe storage facilities at Monterrey Bayou near present day El Paso County Courthouse while their compatriots bombed San Antonio’s Alamo Mission less than three miles away across Buffalo Gap Creek

Canyon, Texas is a small town located in Baylor County, Texas. The population was 1,623 as of the 2010 census. Canyon was founded in 1867 by John H. Thomas and his wife Elizabeth. It originally consisted of just two buildings- a log cabin and a schoolhouse. In 1870, Canyon became the county seat of Baylor County when it was created from parts of Denton County. At the time, canyon had a population of only sixty people and its economy relied primarily on agriculture and ranching. However, over time canyon's economy has diversified significantly, with many businesses now located in the town proper as well as outside of it on nearby ranches. The history of Canyon dates back to 1867 when John H. Thomas and his wife Elizabeth established themselves in what is now known as Canyon after purchasing an acreage east of present day downtown from David Ayerstrom for $600 dollars cash! They were the first white people to live in what is now called Canyon County; at that time it consisted mainly of brushy mesa country with no permanent residents other than petroglyphs left by early Native Americans! The location made perfect sense since here they could be surrounded by water but also have access to all sorts of natural resources necessary for their farming/ranchers livelihoods! Over time they built up a small community around their log cabin which served mostly as a home base while they hunted rabbit, deer, elk, moose and other game out west! After several years living there they decided to move closer to civilization so they purchased 640 acres across from Loop 410 southeast of downtown which would become their new home! In 1880 canyon had 2 schools: one for boys (grades 4-6) and one for girls (grades 7-9). One year later the school system merged with Denton County’s public school system making both schools part of District No 9!! By 1907 there were 10 stores including 3 grocery stores within 5 miles of town Limits!!! This growth continued through World War I when production increased due to increased demand due to combat overseas; however during prohibition times things slowed down dramatically because most sales took place outside Colorado!!! Businesses like these continue growing until about 1950 when “the Great Recession” hit rock bottom causing many jobs/businesses within city limits to go out OF BUSINESS!!!!! Ranching/agricultural production has been our mainstay ever since then continuing into our current day!! Today much like before there are still few permanent residents inside or nearby town limits despite recent efforts by city officials to bring more people into the area thru annexation!!! Although some businesses have closed recently due lack thereof compared TO pre recession levels business overall continues booming!!!!!!!!
Canyon is located in east-central Texas and has been inhabited for over 10,000 years. The area now known as Canyon was first settled by the Creek people in the early 1800s. In 1836, Spanish explorers discovered and named the area Canyon de las Aguas, meaning "the canyon of water". The name stuck and Canyon became a popular tourist destination.
