Burleson, Texas is a city in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 23,599 at the 2010 census. The Burleson-Amarillo Metropolitan Statistical Area has a population of nearly 50,000 people. It is the county seat of Midland County. BURLESON begins as an Indian village named Ochsner's Ford on May 20th 1836 by German immigrants Wilhelm and Friedrich Ochsner. The town name means "Prairie of Flowers." By 1870 it had a post office, three churches and seventy residents. On November 3rd 1870 the first railroad station in Amarillo was opened here by the Railroad Company of Texas when it extended from Galveston to Amarillo via Burleson. In 1907 Harry Ladd built what is now known as Ladd's Addition which became one of the most important commercial districts in Amarillo with its many stores and businesses including: Ladd's Drug Store (now Hooters), Six Flags Over texas amusement park (now Six Flags Fiesta), American Tobacco Company (now Altria cigarettes), Texaco Refinery No. 1 (later ExxonMobil) and other major corporations such as Armour & Co., Brown Shoe Warehouse, Waco Milling Company and First National Bank among others. In 1931 Waco Milling closed down after producing over one million bushels of corn for grain elevator use alone during that decade alone! The significant growth in Burleson came about due to two things; first being an oil boomtown brought on by increasing production levels at Shell Oil Corporation no matter how much they may have objected because they were losing money; secondly development opportunities expressed through Southwestern Bell Telephone which wanted to build a telephone line east out of Amarillo into Wichita Falls then north into Fort Worth then west into Dallas/Fort Worth then south into Denton making Amarillo their new phone center! This gave Burleson some much needed industry but also caused some problems because there were not enough roads or housing available to support all these people coming to town! After World War II ended things slowed down again until the late 1970s when OPEC increased production causing prices for gasoline to go up 50%. This made cars more affordable for people who could no longer afford expensive trucks or vans so jobs stopped flowing away from manufacturing plants across America leaving cities like Detroit with few if any jobs leftwright burlesons started becoming primarily bedroom communities - complete with golf courses and shopping malls! Despite this fact burlesón has seen some respectable growth over recent years culminating with its annexation by Midland County in 2000 making it official home to everyone within its borders!
