Burleson is a small town in Texas. It was founded by the Burleson family in 1892. The Burlesons are an Irish-American family who immigrated to Texas in the late 19th century. The town has a population of around 9,000 people. Burleson is located in northeastern Travis County on the banks of the Trinity River. It lies about halfway between Austin and El Paso on I-10 and just east of US 92. The townsite was originally named for General Sam Houston, who had been born in nearby Templeton. By 1907, Gertrude had married George Witherspoon IV, son of millionaire oilman George Witherspoon IV. George Witherspoon IV purchased much of the land surrounding Burrleons current limits within two years after its establishment as part of a land deal with local ranchers Jack Hargrave and Tom Pettyjohns that allowed him to acquire 513 acres (2 km²) adjacent to his father’s holdings at San Antonio and Refugio Roads west of Burrleons original bounds; this new property included several miles (3 km) of river frontage on both sides of the Trinity River which would become one important source of income for the community over time. In 1916 Gertrude gave birth to her only child: Everett “Ted” Burleson III (1920–1996). Burleson experienced significant growth during World War II thanks to its proximity to Dallas-Fort Worth Airport; however, due to wartime shortages of munitions, many industries shut down or went out of business within months of Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941 (the day Japan attacked Pearl Harbor). However, some notable businesses such as Sears Roebuck & Co., IBM Corporation (a key player during World War II), Ford Motor Company (a major producer of vehicles), Cargill Incorporated (one of the top suppliers of foodstuffs) managed to survive until the end of hostilities when they merged with Iowa State University's Krupp company Limited into United Meat Packers Incorporated (now known as Tyson Foods). During post-war times Burleson experienced a period of revival with several new businesses opening up including construction materials company Litton Industries Incorporated in 1951 followed by Allied Signal Corporation in 1957 which manufactured electronic switching equipment for military use; this led to Burleson becoming one of the leading electronics manufacturing centers in Texas until deregulation eliminated most government interference within these industries at the turnofthe 21st century which caused many smaller companies to fold or go out OFSIA
