Burleson is a town in Leon County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita Falls–Fort Worth Metropolitan Statistical Area. Burleson was founded in 1869 by Colonel John Fenton and his wife Eliza A. Fenton as a stop on the Santa Fe Railroad. In 1870, it became an independent municipality with its own sheriff and court system. The town's first school was built in 1872 and its first post office opened in 1875. In 1902, Burleson incorporated as a city under the name of Wichita Falls. After becoming an organized city, it annexed nearby towns such as Liberty (1907), Poteau (1910), and Quinton (1915). The annexation gave Burleson more territory and led to its current name of "Burleson". The city limits were expanded to include present-day Midland on July 1, 1924; Haskellsburg on January 1, 1927; Vernon Hills on February 15, 1930; Rockwall on May 6, 1932; Overton Park on October 16, 1935; Denison Heights on October 17, 1936; Willowbrook Heights on October 22nd 1937 and finally into Midland Township effective November 3rd 1938 which included present day Midland along with most of Wichita Falls and smaller portions of Fort Worth metropolitan area

Burleson, Texas is a small town located in Midland County, Texas. The population was 2,812 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The first settlers in Burleson were James W. and Sarah A. Hogg who arrived in 1849 and established a ranch near what is now downtown Burleson. They were followed by other pioneers such as John Fenton and his family who went to burro grazing country west of town in 1857. The first store opened in 1859 on Main Street which became the center of town until 1886 when it moved to First Avenue and then to corner of Elm and Brazos Streets. In 1906, the post office was moved from downtown to Burleson Center which served as the town’s main square until it closed its doors in 1978. In 1998, a campaign was started to getBurleson designated a official city within 10 years through an annexation process that included neighboring towns Round Rock and Georgetown before finally succeeding after being approved by voters on November 3rd, 2002 with a majority vote cast against annexation by 52% - 48%. The incorporation effort took two years with much debate over whether or not Burleson had enough economic development potential to warrant incorporation into one municipality while also accommodating various cultural differences between its constituent towns (eastern Texans more likely affiliated with Austin while western Texans more likely associated with Round Rock). Although initially opposed by some residents who felt they would be lost among their larger neighbor(s), incorporation ultimately led to increased business opportunities for businesses located inside of city limits as well as less competition for services from outlying villages/towns; making Burleson one of the most successful annexations in Travis County history! Today, there are several thriving businesses including: Midland Ford dealership (one of only two remaining Chevrolet dealerships within Travis County), Wellborn Bank & Trust (the largest bank located within city limits), Burger King, FedEx Office., KFC Country Club & Resort (a popular tourist destination featuring golf courses, restaurants, shops) as well as numerous churches both Protestant and Catholic including St Patrick’s Cathedral & Parish Hall on Elm Street adjacent to Wellborn Bank & Trust while also incorporating aspects of Mexican culture into everyday life such as wearing corridas during Holy Week ceremonies at nearby San Pedro de las Flores Church. With continued growth opportunities expected throughout Travis County due largely to suburban sprawl occurring outside city boundaries – no matter how difficult or inconvenient – it is clear that annexation has been beneficial for all involved!

In the late 1800s, Burleson became known for its education opportunities, with two high schools, one for boys and one for girls, established in the early 1900s. The towns post office closed in 1951, but until that time it was the only mail stop on the Interstates 30 and 45 corridor between Dallas and Austin.
