Burleson, Texas is a city in San Antonio County, Texas, United States. The population was 576 at the 2010 census. It is part of the larger Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Burleson was founded in 1879 as a cattle town on the east bank of the Rio Grande River and became an important agricultural center during the late 19th century. After being annexed by Austin in 1907, Burleson experienced significant growth during the 1920s and 1930s as an automotive manufacturing center for America's Chevrolet company. In recent years, Burleson has become a bedroom community for Austin. The history of Burleson began with two men who met while working on opposite sides of the tracks: John W. White and James Hanceyburrough both from Kentucky were building railroads through San Antonio in 1879. They decided to stop at White's ranch on their way back to Kentucky after reaching San Antonio; White invited Hanceyburrough to stay and help him build some bridges across the river. Hanceyburrough agreed and started burrowing into what would become Burleson Creek just south of downtown San Antonio when he discovered oil wells had been drilled nearby! He named his new settlement "Burleson" after his old home state of Kentucky - land that still stands today (although it is now used as part of University Park). The townsite grew rapidly due to immigrants coming to work on various railroad projects including cinching connections between different lines right near where they worked; people also brought their homes along with them when they moved here because there wasn't any real development around back then! The early pioneer days were tough; meals consisted mostly of hard tack biscuits and watermelon given away by local ranchers as presents! But despite all these difficulties, life went on pretty much how it always had done before things got interesting...except for one big difference: people here started using oil instead of horses or wagons to haul goods around! This made transportation much more efficient which allowed businesses like automobiles manufacturers such as Chevrolet to start flourishing hereabouts! During World War II, many locals joined up with military service either through volunteerism or joining up with companies specifically formed for this purpose (e.g., USAA). Manufacturing continued throughout World War II but shifted completely towards production during 1945-1946 because so many machines needed replacement parts produced overseas due TO THE MANY BOMBINGS THAT OCCURRED IN THE UNITED STATES!!! All told, more than fifty thousand individual jobs were created in this wartime period thanks largely to advances in technology that led directlyto war production.......still no streetlights here though 😔

Burleson is a city in and the county seat of Hockley County, Texas, United States. The population was 10,788 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The first permanent settlers in what is now Burleson arrived in 1855 from Illinois. A post office was established at Burleson on October 6, 1858, under the name "Pine Bluff". The town took its present form when it was laid out by John Sledge and James Ellington for Wm. Fenton in 1859. Prior to this time it had been a scattered group of ranching villages that stretched from east to west along the Trinity River. In 1865 an Arkansas oil rig sunk off the coast near Burleson and began to leak oil into the local water supply; due to this event locals decided to build their own wellhead site about two miles (3 km) north of town on land donated by Major General John Tatum. This wellhead became known as "Tatum's Well" after him and eventually produced over 1 million barrels per day (bpd). During World War II, Burleson served as one of five military airfields used by USAAF Ninth Air Force during strategic bombing campaigns against Japan across three months in 1943-January 1944 including raids on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The city motto is "Nemo me impune lacessit". The City Council adopted this motto in 1951 following a campaign led by then-mayor Newton Baker Sr.. In 1984, Mayor George Prentice directed all public works departments within city limits be merged into one consolidated entity named "City Services", effective January 1st that year which eliminated many duplicate titles and streamlined operations with better communication between agencies within city government
