The town of Burleson was founded on July 10, 1876 by John Fenton and James A. Hutton. The first post office in the town was established on December 12, 1876. It reverted to its original name on November 3rd of that year when it became part of the new Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. In 1950, Burleson annexed parts of Willacy County including Deming and Springdale and changed its name back to Dallas again after becoming an independent municipality once more within the larger MSA. The current mayor is Greg Stanton with City Council members Art Waybill (D-4th Ward), Dwaine Boggs (R-2nd Ward), Lance Briggs (L-3rd Ward) and Michael Purcell (D-1st Ward).
