From 1917-1920 Baylor College Preparatory School operated in what is now known as Building G which housed both men's and women's dormitories with classrooms upstairs/below ground level separated by corridors serving only male students until 1969 when that building was demolished to make way for McLane Stadium which seats 73,000 people today On December 12th 1906 Burnet Indian agent Wm Sutherlin sold 2200 acres (8 km²) west of town to J P Meagher for $5 per acre . This land became known as "Meagher Ranch" after J P Meagher who bought it in 1903 from Chief White Cloud. There were three subdivisions formed off this land: East Range subdivision located east of Main Street; West Range subdivision located west of Main Street; and North Range subdivision located north of US Highway 411 and east off FM 726 It should be noted that these boundaries were not always formally defined or agreed upon until later when specific parcels were acquired including those mentioned above In 1913 James Hance Burleson organized a group called "The Missionary Society" comprising some 20+ individuals who desired to purchase land closer to Houston so they could establish themselves there rather than moving around constantly looking for new land . After much discussion among participants about where they should locate their new mission station they eventually decided on burlington because it had been recommended by Dr John Wesley Powell who had visited this area while he was secretary general at American Geographical Society Membership began accepting applications for membership in October 1914 with

The town site lay within what are now rural portions of Tarrant County until annexation by Amarillo in 1907. In 1941, much of the original downtown district burned down due to an accidental fire that started while residents were playing with fireworks near their homes. As a result of this and other tragedies that have struck the town over the years, Burleson has since placed emphasis on prevention as its number one priority. Today, the city government funds variousy programs encouraging early detection and suppression of fires before they become large problems.
