This change may have been due to changes take place within the United States government that allowed for more civilian ownership of handguns following the passage of the National Firearms Act of 1934 . This act regulated firearm ownership within designated limits and gave rise to what is known as “the Brady Amendment” which banned most rifle sales without a license from certain states . Because shotguns make up a large percentage of tx's shooting population , this amendment had less impact on handgun production . At that time, rifle barrels were also becoming more common as shotguns became less common. Assemblements at The Gunsmith typically lasted around three hours with customers being able to come in to buy any type of ammo they desired including rifle rounds as well as shotgun rounds. In 1939, Donnybrook Arms Company merged into Winchester Repeating Arms Company which then merged into Colt Firearms Corporation in 1966. As a result of this merger, Colt Firearms Corporation ceased manufacture of handguns leaving only rifles and shotguns remaining on the market today.
Burleson, Texas is a small town located in the Midland region of Texas. The population was 4,182 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. Burleson began as an agricultural community in 1892 and grew rapidly during the 1920s when oil was discovered in nearby Matagorda County. The burro herders who had been operating here for centuries were displaced by new settlers, but Burleson continued to grow until it reached its peak population of 10,000 in 1940. The post-World War II era saw a decline in population due to many factors including automobiles and other forms of transportation making it easier for people to commute to larger cities. However, with the recent arrival of Hispanics and others from Southwestern Mexico, Burleson has seen a resurgence over the past few years which is attributed to its rich history and culture as well as its proximity to Austin. The town has two churches: First Baptist (founded 1888) and Second Baptist (founded 1924). In addition, there are several schools including Lamar University School of Law (opened 1927), Gibson High School (established 1922), Baylor University's Manning School of Business Administration (opened 1979), Stroudsburg State Park (established 1938), and McCullough High School (established 1906). There are also several businesses such as AT&T Telephone Company Building #1 which was built in 1925 and now houses the old Burr Ridge Post Office; United States Post Office building #2 which served as office space for Texaco before it merged with American Express; Peabody Coal & Coke Co., Inc.'s refinery on FM 1531; IHOP restaurant - currently known as "Applebee's" - across from Texas Southern University; KFC restaurant - currently known as "Pizza Hut"; Freeman Chevrolet dealership; Holiday Inn hotel - now known as Marriott International Hotel; Pecan Lodge Restaurant - closed since 1978 but still standing next door to Freeman Chevrolet dealership.; Burleson also has a handful of smaller businesses like these that contribute significantly to local economy such as Forddy Brothers Farms Ltd., Donelson Furniture Warehouse Inc., Hometown Ice Cream Co., Jostens Clothing Store & Repair Shop, Lighthouse Pizza Place, Waffle House restaurants commonly found all around town,. There are several museums located within walking distance including exhibits at Cimarron County Historical Museum (#2 on FM 1531); Sam Houston State Memorial Museum (#4 on US 71 south); Beaumont Heritage Center downtown about 1 mile east of town center; Burnett Planetarium inside Burnett Elementary school about 1/3 mile east from town center along US 71 north.; Lone Star Brewing Company opened up shop adjacent to Burnett Elementary school about 1/3 mile east from town center along US 71 north.; Many restaurants have moved into Towne Creek shopping mall just southwest of downtown since it opened up in 2001.

Burleson was founded in 1836 by Captain John W. Burleson and his wife, Sarah. The town grew rapidly due to the discovery of oil in the area, and by 1850 it had a population of over 500 people. In 1872, Colonel Edward Hogg established an oil refinery in Burleson, which continued to be a major presence in the community until it closed its doors in 1984. Today, only a few fragments of the original town remain; most of the buildings were destroyed when Hurricane Ike hit in 2003. However, Burleson has left behind an important legacy as one of Texas' earliest boomtowns. The city's history provides insights into both its economy and its social landscape at a time when Texans were rapidly developing their state as a national power center. Burleson was founded on December 17th, 1836 by Captain John W. Burleson and his wife Sarah.burleson became namesake for John W Burleson who donated land for the town site on May 6th 1840 with instructions that "it shall stand forever" (Foley). On July 25th 1840, Captain John W Burleson married Sarah Jane Ewing near present day San Augustine, TX (Foley). The couple had two children: John Pemberton and Sarah Jane(Ewing)Burleson soon realized that there was potential for oil development in what is now Texas so he began purchasing land parcels from farmers east of Houston including parts of San Augustine and nearby Lufkin (Foley). In October 1839 Captains JW & SS bought 302 acres from James Fenton near present day Huntsville AL for $4 per acre ($48 million today). This purchase marked the beginning of what would become known as "The Oil Fields". In January 1840 Captains JW & SS again purchased 308 acres from William Harris along I-10 just south of San Angelo TX for $5 per acre ($60 million today). This purchase marked another milestone in White Sulphur Springs history as this land became one of Texas’ firstOIL depots(Kleinman et al.). By November 1840 Captains JW &SS had acquired 1/4 mile square about due north of where they currently reside on FM 871 between US 90& Highway 281 (Houston) - this parcel would later come to be known as "The Hill". Just prior to this acquisition they also purchased 282 additional acres east side US 20 from David Bogue which included much current downtown Houston(Doyle). As mentioned earlier these purchases signaled that BURLSON WAS ABOUT TO BEGIN HIS ROYAL ENGAGEMENT WITH OIL DEVELOPMENT AND THAT THE STATE OF TEXAS WAS NOW INCREASING IN POWER AS A NATION STATESMAN (Newell-Smith 3rd ed.). BURLESON BEHIND THE SCENES: BEFORE HOUSTON HISPANICS COME TO LIVE HEREabouts It took some time but eventually colonists started arriving hereabouts from Louisiana specifically Spanish Galvestone Island slave traders looking for new sources or slaves during this period called “The Golden Age” because blacksmiths already did heavy work with hammers making nails etc., whereas previous methods such as hand sawing timber or blundering with axes resulted onlypartial success”(Gunnarsson 22-24)(Emphasis added) Many early burlesonsians came directly from New Orleans where many families owned plantations working off sugarcane profits exported back home(Baldwin 103-104)). Slavery ended according to Texas state law 7 years after General Sam Houston's victory over Mexico at Palo Alto Bridge while much Angelina County remains within Mexican territory today
Burleson is located in west-central Texas and was first settled in 1836. The town was named for General Sam Houston, who fought in the Mexican War and became the country's first president. The Burleson School District was formed in 1902 and disbanded in 1974.
