Hodge and his shop was located on the east side of Main Street. In 1860, Burkburnett became a county seat and the town voted to establish a sheriff’s office. The first sheriff was J.D. Hill and his office was located at 5th & Elm Streets. In 1903, Burkburnett incorporated as a city and its mayor was Simeon Clements. On July 1, 1907, the Bur Burnett Rifle Club was formed in response to an appeal from citizens who wanted rifles that could be shot accurately into borders or woods for hunting purposes only.
