The company manufactured a variety of firearms including pistols and shotguns. In 1829, Herrington and Company merged with other companies to form the Herrington-Allen Manufacturing Company. This company manufactured rifles, pistols, artillery projectiles, and shotgun rounds. Ammunition production continued at this company until about 1883 when it switched to manufacturing shotgun shells instead. Shotgun shells became an important product for the defense of Texas during the American Civil War because they could be fired from long guns such as cannons or rifles without reloading. After the war, many businesses closed down in Burkburnett due to competition from new weapons manufacturing companies such as Winchester Repeating Arms Company and Colt Firearms Manufacturing Co.. However, some businesses did continue operations until around 1920 when World War I ended and began causing significant economic decline in town. Consequently, most residents left for good by 1920 and ammunition production ceased completely in Burkburnett. Today there is only a small amount of ammunition remaining on hand which is used primarily for target shooting purposes.

The Burkburnett community began as a small farmstead near present-day Burkburnett Junction on the east bank of the Trinity River. In 1875, Adam Burk Burnett and his family migrated from Kentucky to become the first white men to settle in what is now Chambers County. Burnett constructed a log cabin on his farmstead and named it after himself - Burkburnett (a Scots word meaning "humpy top"). He also established a gristmill and bakery within the town limits. In 1902, Burnett partnered with Jesse Henson to found the Henson Grain & Feed Company which became one of Chambers County's leading grain mills. Over time, other local businesses joined Henson Grain & Feed including an insurance company and a grocery store. The Burnett family lost their initial ownership stake in Henson Grain & Feed when it merged with another grain millOwnership changed hands multiple times over the years until 1995 when it reverted back to Adam Burnett Jr.'s son Adam Burnett III who currently controls all of its assets.- Burbanketts post office opened on November 16th 1865 under license #1 from Chisholm Post Office In 1895, part of land that later became known as Burkburnetti Township was donated by Mrs John Witherspoon to establish what would eventually become Burkburnetti Post Office

In 1849, the Western Railroad completed its route from Houston to Burkburnett, making it an important transportation hub. In 1870, the first school in the town was built, followed by a hospital in 1876. By 1901, Burkburnet had become a major cotton port and manufacturing center with significant industry such as oil refineries and machine shops. The city experienced rapid growth during World War II as military spending increased nearby Texan cities like Corpus Christi and Galveston became wartime production centers. After the war ended, Burbanketti slowly lost its importance as a commercial center until the late 21st century when it regained some of its former prominence as a bedroom community for Austin.
