The Red Dot Sight History in Brownwood, Texas began in the early 1940s with the development of a red dot sight by American Rifleman magazine editor, Roy Chamberlin. Chamberlin designed and built a rifle sight specifically for use with the M1 Garand that featured an image on a white disk mounted on a black tube. The disk was located just above the rear aperture of the receiver and could be seen from any angle. chamberlin's design quickly became popular and was adopted by other firearm manufacturers. In 1948, Brownwood resident, Johnnie L. Caldwell purchased a Garand Carbine and installed Chamberlin's red dot sight into it. Using this weapon as his personal defense system, Caldwell successfully used it to shoot down two numerically-supervised bandits while they were robbing a store in Brownsville in 1949. This event is considered to be one of the first successful uses of red dot sights on firearms. The Brownwood Rifle and Pistol Club was chartered in 1892. The club first held meetings at the old Methodist church, but soon moved to the post office. In 1896, the club purchased a rifle from J.B. Nichols and began chambering rounds for it at their home. In 1906, they built a new clubhouse on a hill near town square. The club has continued to meet there ever since.
Brownwood is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 3,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The first post office in Brownwood was established on November 15, 1881. The name "Brownwood" was chosen because of the color of the timber and because brown cows were common in the area at that time. Brownwood grew slowly until it became a thriving small town with over 10 businesses by 1990. The community underwent a major transformation after Hurricane Rita struck on September 27, 2005, when homes and businesses were destroyed and entire neighborhoods were leveled. In all, Brownwood lost over 90% of its housing stock and more than 50% of its jobs in one day after Katrina made landfall. In May 2009, Mayor Ramon Gomez announced that he would run for state representative from District 5 (the portion of Hudspeth County east of I-35) against incumbent Democrat Donna Feeney; Gomez had been term limited out of office as mayoralty ended five years earlier than expected. On October 1st local election results showed Gomez with nearly 54% (of the vote) to Feeney's 34%. A special election was held on December 6th to fill unexpired terms resulting in Gomez being re-elected unopposed with almost 71% (of the vote) to Feeney's 23%. Brownsville is located within District 5; it is bordered by District 4 to its north and east, while District 3 includes most of University Park to its south and west. Brownsville has seen rapid growth since 2000 due largely to Interstate 35 construction which has added much needed development around Interstate 45 near downtown Brownsville proper as well as new subdivisions developments scattered throughout unincorporated territory along I-35 corridor between Brownsville Boulevard/US Highway 183 & FM 927 & FM 620 just southwest of Loop 1604 outside present day University Park borders

Brownwood, Texas is a town in Fort Worth County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex. The first European to visit what is now Brownwood was José Antonio Del Rio on November 4, 1795. He and his party were exploring the area when they came across an encampment of Creek Indians near what is now downtown Brownwood. On October 1, 1804 Colonel James Fenton and his brigade of cavalry attacked this Indian camp from behind and drove them from their camping ground into a ravine on the east side of White Oak Bayou. A group of Creek Indians who had been hiding among the trees nearby that morning discovered what happened and soon enough there were shouts and skirmishes going on all around as troops withandwithout horses began streaming through the woods towards where they saw bodies piled high inamongsttheir belongings: The site where today's Brownwood stands was almost certainly chosen for its convenient location for water access because it lay between two ravines which formed natural boundaries to both white settlements in present-day Fort Worth County and Indian Territory (now Oklahoma). The creek also provided cover during battles between military units seeking plunder or hunting grounds while traveling through this area; Brownsville developed as a result of these activities. In 1825 John Bowie founded what became known as Bowie Rancho just south of present day White Oak Bayou; it comprised 8 square miles (20 km²) including much of what is now Brownwood Township. In 1855 Alfred Tappan built the first store in Whatcom County outside Seattle, Washington; he named it Tappan's Depot after himself and Anthony Wayne Sr., owner/manager of another early Everett store located about one mile southeast along State Route 166 in modern-day Arlington Heights, Illinois until its closing in 1865 due to low sales volume. By 1870 some 170 stores had been opened up throughout Northwest Territory (later Oklahoma), many by men such as Augustus Kelley who had arrived since 1840 with Ulysses S. Grant's survey team examining claims for land grants across Central America granted under Manifest Destiny doctrine hysteria during Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West Show at Washakie National Monument near Edmondson City (present day Guthrie). In 1877 Tappan sold most or all his holdings in Puget Sound country northwest of Tacoma to Edmund Rice & Co.; Rice retained title to land eastward extending from Tacoma all the way to Aberdeen Proving Ground before selling it back to Tappan in 1902 following World War I efforts by several investors led by Harry Emerson Fosdick with initial plans for Interstate 5 routing through Tacoma via Auburn Hills then Bellevue before terminating at Tappan Boulevard northeast of Woodinville Center outsideSeattle proper; however freeway construction aborted those plans just three years later when highway funds shifted elsewhere .
