In 1888–89 A & M College established a school there initially teaching students grades one through twelve but soon grew into higher Levels including college degree programs starting later that same decade (the first four-year college west of Perrysburg). The current building was completed in 1925 after being designed by Alfred Bogue who also designed many other major buildings including Arlington Memorial Hospital just east of downtown Dallas which opened in 1923 also originally serving students from Brownsville until 1961 when all campus moved into main Campus building now called UT Brownsville School District Building across Main Street from First Baptist Church). In 1930 Brownwood had 8 businesses employing over 100 people with 5 stores/cafeterias/bars open plus another 10+ involved in various contracting services etc., served primarily by Mrsgrady Jarrell who ran everything day & night 7 days a week out of her home up until her death suddenly before she could even turn 55 years old!
