Brownwood is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,790 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Worth-Arlington Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community began as a stop on the Austin and Colorado Railway in 1887. A post office was established in 1888, and growth continued until 1905 when the railroad was abandoned. In 1907, Brownwood became an independent municipality; it absorbed the nearby communities of Grady and Haskell. Growth slowed during World War II because of rationing of ammunition but resumed after war ended. In the 1960s, industry declined but steady population growth has kept Brownwood thriving since then. In recent decades, however, there has been a resurgence in manufacturing due to new cheap labor from Asia; this has created problems for local businesses that have to compete with cheaper factories overseas without sacrificing quality or service

Brownwood is a small town located in Bowie County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area and is served by Brownwood Independent School District. The first permanent settler in what would become Brownwood was John Pemberton in 1873. The town was platted in 1875 and named for James A. Brown, a cattleman from Wichita Falls who had purchased land hereabouts. Post office designation came about two years later when the postmaster moved to the new village on the San Antonio River which lay just east of present day Brownwood. At that time there were only five residences in what became Brownwood; all were built between 1875-1876 by local ranchers led by James Hill and J.B. Howell with help from Easton & Sons merchants George Witherspoon and David Potter both of Wichita Falls.. In 1909, after much discussion it was decided to change the name to Garland as it seemed more appropriate for a community within Bowie County than Wichita Falls or Garland City which were two other towns then located within that county seat of Fort Worth proper.. In 1916 Garland reverted back to its original name when Bowie County changed its name from Archer to Garland due to lack of consensus among residents over what should be done with their old county seat so close to Dallas/Fort Worth Airport.. The current boundaries of the town date back to 1907 when portions east (including today's Greenways) overlapped with those now belonging to Arlington Heights - one reason given for this being that they had been surveyed together but not merged until 1907 because then it would have been necessary for Streets Department bureaucrats responsible for surveying Utopia Township (northwest side) which also contained much undesirables including lots best known as "Railroad Row" (southwest corner of Greenways and Railroad Avenue), interlocking streets clamped down since annexation into Arlington Heights on November 7th 1906 so development couldNot proceed without prior approval from Streets Department... finally approved on December 2nd 1907 following public outcry over annexation motion carried by 3rd Ward Alderman John Davenport Sr.; however Street Department bureaucrats never merged Utopia Township with Arlington Heights as planned because they did not want any bunching up of similar development near Rice University or nearby shopping malls!

Brownwood was founded in 1836 by John Brown and his wife, Sarah. It was the first town in Texas. The town was named for Providence, Rhode Island. The Browns owned a large piece of land in what is now Brownwood, and they started trading goods with the Mexican population. In 1839, the Browns built a church in Brownwood and started teaching Sunday school. They also developed a small mill to produce flour and other products. In 1845, John Brown died and his wife became president of the town. She continued to run the town until her death in 1862. The town remained under Republican control until it became an Independent Republic in 1912. Then it reverted back to Republican control until 1934 when it became a part of the new Democratic Republic of Texas
