Brownwood is a small town in Johnson County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,922 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo–Texarkana Metropolitan Statistical Area. Brownwood is located on the south side of the Brazos River and east of Amarillo. The first permanent settler in what is now Brownwood was Wm. H. Draper in 1872. He and his wife Anna moved from Arkansas to Brownsville, TX in 1875 and started a family there. In 1886 Jesse Sikes settled here with his family after purchasing land north of Amarillo from David Dixon for $5 per acre (USD). By 1902 there were over 100 residents living in 10 buildings on . On October 16, 1903 local citizens erected a sod schoolhouse east of town on what is now Ulysses Boulevard near present-day Red Hill Elementary School which served as their library until it burned down in 1954. In 1907 brown chicken crossed Brazos River into Johnson County from Chilton County to provide fresh eggs for local farmers who then sold them to consumers at two dozen cents each (USD). The eggs became identified with Brownwood as locals referred to it as "the BROWNWOOD EGGS". In 1935 Johnnie Ray opened the first grocery store west of town by damming up Brazos River and selling goods out back across an old road bridge which he had built himself using materials scavenged from other businesses along the way including one destroyed by floods eight years earlier when nearby dams failed catastrophically due to faulty construction - this event are still commemorated annually through hometown parade held on July 4th.) In 1959 Drillington McMullen developed an oil well near present day Brownwood that led to large production changes for the small community beginning in 1960 followed by increased development around it resulting in today’s commercial center with its own hospital/medical complex/apartment complexes/residential neighborhoods etc.. The “McMullen Oil Field” continues producing today contributing $1 billion annually to the economy & 8500 jobs since 1960! One early resident was Mrs Lula Whitehorn who arrived hereabouts 1892 when she married James Fenton who founded McLennan Land Company which leased land east of town from Mr Crawford for farming purposes during those early days when only tenant farmers depended upon prevailing winds & rainfall patterns for their crops – later they acquired additional property adjacent southeast where they organized themselves into companyLimited Partnership & began manufacturer Of Cotton( spinning) Machines; Electricity Generating Stations also soon came about adjoining new home place making this area quite attractive With many fine residences being erected prior To 1906 when Mrs Whitehorn passed away suddenly leaving her husband behind To run things Hereabouts Alone………..!!!
Binoculars have been around for centuries and there are many different types of them. Binoculars were originally invented by a man named Nicholas-Jacques Conte in 1764. He created a pair of binoculars that could be worn on the nose so people could see things at a distance. The first binoculars to be sold were made in 1825. These early binoculars had lenses that were only about one-eighth inch wide and were used mainly for viewing objects close up. In 1868, a man named John Jubb developed a design for a smaller, more comfortablebinocular that could be worn on the eye like current day glasses. This new design allowed people to see things at a greater distance and was nicknamed the “Jubb” or “Jupiter” binocular because it was larger than any other type of binos at the time. In 1903, another man named Arthur Clarke designed and manufactured the first commercialized high qualitybinocular system which became known as the “Clarke” or “Camelbak” system because it had large aperture lenses that allowed users to see very close up objects such as landscapes and stars. The popularity of these binoclars led to their development into what we now know as regular red/green/blue (R/G/B) Binocleses today!
