Brownwood is a small town in Robertson County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,773 at the 2010 census. Ammunition production started here in 1876 and continued until 1906. Brownwood was once home to one of the world's largest foundry operations for ammunition manufacturing. Today, the town is only known for its abundance of pistols and revolvers.

Brownwood is a small town in Texas, located just northeast of Dallas. The population was 5,531 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Denton–Arlington, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded by Texans who came from Brownsville, Texas in 1836 to escape Mexican occupation. The name Brownwood comes from a Texan trail guide's interpretation of "bouvard" - "a brown wood". In 1854, the first post office was established in Brownwood and it continued to be conducted until 1909. On January 1, 1907, Brownwood became an independent municipality with its own government and school system. The first mayor was C.[O] H.[A] B[R]owland Jr.. The boundaries of the new municipality changed over time but most notably at the 1980 census when it added land north of I-635 to form Arlington Heights. This made Brownwood one of two Arlington Heights municipalities (the other being Garland) that did not become incorporated into Dallas County until 1984 when allDallas areas were unified under one countywide government. Today Brownwood is a working class community with many retirees and young families residing on or near its main streets ( Main Street east to west and Railroad Avenue north to south). A large number of businesses are family-owned and operated; these include restaurants, bars/libraries, convenience stores and gas stations. There are also several churches located throughout the community including First Baptist Church which has been serving the community for over 80 years; Methodist Church which has been serving since 1915; Sacred Heart Catholic Church which opened its doors in 1955; Stations Parish Chapel which was built in 1954 adjacent to local high school; Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church which serves as both parish church for residents within walking distance as well as providing worship services for area schools dating back to 1922

Brownwood was founded in 1879 by Captain John Brown and his family. The town became a sawmill, lumberyard, and cotton plantation center. In the late 1800s, Brownsville replaced Brownwood as the county seat of San Antonio County. Brownwood was annexed by Austin in 1916. In the 1930s, the city of Austin moved to its present site within the town limits. A shopping mall, Interstate 35E (Loop 610), and other development have taken place within and around Brownwood since then. Today, Brownwood is a small community with a population of circa 6500 people who live in local churches or individual homes. The economy of Brownwood is primarily agricultural with some light industry including a handful of businesses that provide services to residents such as mechanics and home-repair shops.
Brownwood was founded in 1843 by a rancher named John Brown. The town quickly grew and developed into a thriving community, with businesses and citizens alike. After years of growth, the town came to an end in the early 1920s when it was annexed by nearby Amarillo.
